Wynwood & the Basel effect

As early as Tuesday afternoon, the second ArtMiami opened their doors to the VIP card holding elite, Wynwood has been breathing heavy & blushing in the face of the influx of the art going public. Tuesday's vernissage was slammed and theres been little to no parking as the other fairs came to their blossoming. Many galleries, adjacent to a fair knew to keep their doors wide open (the smart ones, at least) attracting the fair goers throughout the day. Our art district hasn't had a second to sleep (me included) with the exhausting amount of activity at hand. The herald even flat out stated, "YOU WILL NOT SEE EVERYTHING". A harsh but funny truth. Its crazy to me, when i step back and realize the only thing actually affilited with Basel is the convention center exhibit, containers and design miami. Everything else are the ripples caused by ABMB being dropped into the puddle that is Miami.

A plethora of walls all over the 20 block span of our art district have dressed up with bright murals, screaming for attention. Interestingly Spinello Gallery is actually responsible for about 10+ beautiful walls from 24-22 st on and east of nw 2 ave. The director Anthony Spinello, explained to me of this "Curated Mural Exhibition" Hand picking local/international muralists to be apart of this clever project, giving the walls regard as pieces in an exhibit, not unlike any show of art objects in the hundreds of indoor venues. Bravo, Spinello.

In my blurry hazy mix of installing and general gallery odd jobery, ive been lucky to catch wind of these straight up random Parties and openings, Emanuel Perrotin's Tuesday night dinner party/ opening reception, photo miami's Tuesday private preview, Vicaya's insane Miami contemporary artists ( I guess) book/exhibition gala, Fred Snitzer's 30 yr anniversary even the loft galleries (23rd st & nw 2 ave) roof party. This action is reaching towards chaos and I'm loving/being killed by it. theres no way to really report/promote any of it, some things you just hear about and have to bounce over immediately. Shit, we were looking for Fred's party last night and just heard the bass and saw the cars parked on 23rd and found an open door and ran up to the roof. These things are every were, just keep an eye out and you're ears handy, people.

All this damn week Wynwood has been on fire, before their respective night (second saturdays) no less, Which actually happens to be TONIGHT (12/8/07) so you can be sure the area will be blown to pieces with happenings. Theres way to much to even know where to start making recommendations, so I won't. What I did do, though, was lose a few nights of sleep and design maps of the area from the gound up.All the venues minus the temporary spots that just appear seemingly out of thin air are included. They are Magenta, black and white with bold san-serif fonts just like Lackner invented (!)

here is a thumb:

a high res view can be found in extended by following the link below. The maps are all over town too.
