Wednesday Auditory Orgasm: E-Dancer - Pump The Move (Kenny Larkin Mix)

We're going to be taking the Wednesday Auditory Orgasm a little further back and deeper this week. Today I'm highlighting one of the foundations of techno.

In 1978, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins and Derrick May met at Belleville High School in Detroit. It would turn out to be a fortuitous meeting and one that would change the face of dance music forever. They soon began producing music that featured an unusual style that blended the funk of 70s Detroit with the sound of the burgeoning European avant-garde movement typified by bands like Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire and Tangerine Dream. The trio brought us sounds that have defined the subsequent generations of music, many of which we'll be featuring here, such as Inner City - Good Life, Rhythim Is Rhythim - Strings Of Life, and Derrick May - Sueno Latino (remix).

One product of the marriage is the formidable E-Dancer - Pump The Move from 1991, the Kenny Larkin remix of which we present to you below. Characterized by the jacking beat and unforgettable sample stab, it's earned its way into the pantheon of techno classics for a good reason. Take a listen.
