Wednesday Auditory Orgasm

In a country mostly known for its heavy metal, Norwegian band Datarock is far from metal as possible, stringing together pop hooks, glitchy beats and dance-rock sensibility to make songs that are instant dancefloor classics. If you went to Poplife and Revolver at their peaks you know them very well. If you didn't, well then now is your time to catch up.

I was able to catch them live during WMC in 2007 when they kicked off the Fixed/Ed Banger party at Studio A (they also appeared at the Spiderpussy party during that WMC as well with then little-known Chromeo). Unfortunately, they were stuck with a 11 p.m. slot, so it was basically me and barely 20 people. Still these guys had energy, and they didn't let the fact that they basically played to an empty house suck the life out of their performance. Well, the guys will get a second chance to show Miami what they are made of when they come into town with Ladytron Wednesday at Studio A. Don't be a fool and miss them. Yes, they are the openers, but trust me this is equal billing in my book.

I leave you with my favorite track off their debut album Datarock Datarock, "Computer Camp Love," because any song that samples Grease's "Summer Nights" is pretty fuckin' awesome.

Very cool track Duran, I like it. Very geeky. I'm embarrassed to admit that I went to a real computer camp in 1984. And the music back then sounded about like this.

The "C++" in this video is an anachronism, BTW. C++ had barely emerged from C by 1984. Yes sorry I'm a nerd.
Fuck Bjarne Stroustrup so hard for that language.

OH OK, so everyone gets all the credit except SpiderPussy? We are the first ones to have Datarock LIVE and a LIVE DJ set by Chromeo for WMC that Thursday, March 22nd in 2007.

I'm sorry... but Datarock is complete crap. Music for zombies.... and not even the cool ones that eat brains. I'm talking about serpent and the rainbow voodoo slave zombies. I've heard better songs come out of an Atari 2600. People, you have to get off this nostalgic, novelty, electro irony tip. Its killing music...and its not even funny. This type of crap is dumbing down the population and tricking you into buying hoodies. I have nothing against dance music, but if this is progress, we might as well start listening to big band music from the 40's and dance like swing kids....which I'm actually down to do at this point of time. Nothing like throwing and swinging a girl around and having her crotch land in your face...

and Duran
I doubt 2006-2007 was Poplife's or Revolver's peaks...they peaked way before that. Mind you, 2007 was when Poplife was sinking due to the Circa Wars and Revolver had already started to fade…so please do as B.A.C. suggested and get your facts straight. Don’t throw words together just because they sound like a good lede.

And Andrews,
Who really cares on who brought who first? Just remember that if it weren’t for Poplife or Revolver, you wouldn’t of had a formula to emulate….ergo, no spider pussy. Really, It's like Checkers complaining that they put bacon in there cheese burgers before Mc Donalds or Burger King.

see ya around clown town, my little zombies.

Er, Simon Datarock was already being played well before 2007. Even though the album was released in '07 here in the U.S., it was released way before in '05 in Europe. And I'm talking more about their peak in popularity.

Are you a spin doctor or something? Perhaps you failed reading comprehension... I'm talking about this quote, chachi..."If you went to Poplife and Revolver at their peaks you know them very well". All I'm saying is that Datarock was not being played at these nights during their so-called peak, because they peaked way before 2006 - 2007, and none of these knucklehead hipster Dj's were playing that track in 2005 when it was released in Europe. If you recall, during that time Revolver was a horrible 80's nostalgic/Hip Hop Party, and Poplife was certainly not playing this god-awful song you posted, they were too busy playing the Annie, Mylo, DFA, and Chromeo in 2005.
Sure, whatever you say Simon.
