Okay mikee, you get your wish! Today's WAO probably one of my current favorite tracks that has been hitting getting a lot of play on my iPod lately. Robyn's cover of the Teddybears' "Cobrastyle" is a mixture of hip-hop, reggae, ska, electro and pop. I know, the potential combination to sound like a complete mess. But guess what? It works! If fact, it works so well that it's one of the songs you hear and you aren't able to get the tune out of your head for the rest of the day.
The backstory on Robyn, she rose to the top on the charts back in the late '90s as Sweden's answer to Britney Spears ("Baby One More Time" Britney, not Cheetos lovin', head shavin' Britney). Slowly she broke free of her cookie-cutter persona, that eventually led her label to drop her deeming her new style of music as not commercial enough. Jokes on them, because with her latest effort Robyn she shot up back to the top of the charts in Europe and renewed interest in her in the States.
