    woops double post. but yeah, i think it goes like this.

    touring musicians can save all kinds of money booking dj spots since they don't have to travel with stage equipment. they can show up with a stack of cds and be good to go. many artists, mostly electronic artists do this. sadly many will do it regardless of their experience djing.

    Hell, chromeo knows they will have a packed night just with their name on the ticket. its a given. they don't have to really do much entertaining once the heads are in there and paid the cover. its a sad growing trend in electronic music performers, but what the hey, i usually have low expectations when i see artists on the ticket with just a "dj set"

    its almost as if they are getting paid to merely show up to a venue and get drunk.

    brilliant scam if u ask me.

    you know, i always thought 'laundry bar' was a great name for a venue, with or without laundry machines. they can't seem to put their finger on a name that resonates their dempgraphic without coming off as obvious and over literal. they seem to be sticking with 'black sheep bar' (which i googled to find their myspace and was hit with 500 OTHER bars named the same dumbass name. oh well, here's to originality. I say it be called "black sheep" is anything. no need for "bar"

    duran, I don't mean to come off as I'm judging you as a hipster (omg!) and yeah, I have read a lot of your writing here (also on newtimesblog) and the character seems reflective of the guy I say sup to on 14st pretty often.

    Didn't mean to confuse the actual you with the you but understand thats all I have to understand you as ( prolly a lot of other ppl 2).

    Definitely. The attitudes that are considered ubiquitous with this "hipsterific" mentality are very much present in Miami, but Miami in itself reflects attitudes (and I mean some seriously intense fuego-style-ness) that aren't present anywhere else. Thats why I posted this here, I feel Miami lacks a significant social community for its scenes. There is an overwhelming amount of "everyman for himself" everywhere I go, and I sure as fuck have that same attitude, It comes with the sun.

    and if you want real food for thought, consider this:

    a large chunk of the area known as Wynwood has recently been granted with "section1242341212" (forget the actual coding term) thus being cleared and encouraged to begin "restaurant, bar & night club development" as well as relieving parking ordinance and some other nuisances (crack houses and drug rings)

    Expect to have more activity in Wynwood other than one saturday a month.

    The idea is to have more day to night alternatives in the arts district improving the average art-seeing foot traffic, eventually having more hours of operation daily, per gallery ( many galleries have "open hours" but actually operate on a more "scheduled appointment" basis) making it more accesible to the non art-world masses and giving the art-snobs a NON artwalk option of getting wasted and partying in the area..... other than artwalk 2nd saturdays and off-night gallery parties (you wish you went to).

    This is all essentially fact based, and derived from the biscayne times, Miami herald, City of miami cultural affairs dept and concerned wynwoodians. imagine the links if your skeptical, research it yourself or if your lazy, TAKE MY WORD ON IT!
