Top 10 Reason I'm Glad WMC is OVER!

As much as I enjoyed the performances by DJs and artists who normally wouldn't think twice about stopping by Miami, I am glad the whole WMC experience is over. Why do you ask? Well I wouldn't be me if I didn't package this into a nifty Top 10 response. So here are the reasons why:

  1. Because our city already has enough traffic problems. And when you throw in a bunch of lost tourist you are bound to get fucked over. Luckily I avoided most of the WMC traffic by using back roads and arriving early.
  2. Because all the good DJs go on at 5 a.m. This wouldn't have been an issue so much if I wasn't sick with strep throat this week, but my energy levels weren't up to par for Conference, so I missed a lot of good performances due to my illness.
  3. Because I'm not a friendly person and no I don't want to tell you where club X is located. Yea, just avoid me, I'm annoyed that my city has been invaded and then you have the audacity to ask me for directions?
  4. Because some venues actually made me pay, including my second home Studio A on a Friday night! I was sort of annoyed by the fact and they gave me a bunch of BS excuses why they couldn't comp me so I forked over the $25 because I really wanted to catch the Ed Banger crew in action. But what REALLY irked me was that some of my friends had no problem being allowed in the venue for free and were given no BS excuses and I know for a fact they weren't on any lists.
  5. Because the men's bathroom actually had a line. WMC is the only time men outnumber women in Miami by 3 to 1, so while women's bathroom were virtually clear, I actually had to stand around and wait. And calculate that most were waiting for stalls to do the necessary amount of coke to stay up until 10 a.m., the wait at times was unbearable.
  6. Because sometimes the people who had the highest hopes of seeing a spectacular performance from somehow manage to disappointed you. See Mickey Avalon and Crystal Castles.
  7. Because you want to see everything and everyone but you know you can't. WMC is like the biggest tease known to man because at any given point you want to be at three places at once, hoping you are catching the better performance in order to brag to your friends later.
  8. Because out-of-towners think they know what's best for Miami. Yea, I hate people who waltz into town with complete disregard for the city or the people who live in it.
  9. Because if I hear Miami Beach referred to as Miami or Downtown Miami referred to as Downtown Miami Beach, I'm going to scream! They are two separate cities people. Miami Beach is the piece of land right off the mainland, while Miami is composed on the neighborhoods of Downtown, Wynwood, Design District, Little Havana, Coconut Grove, Brickell, Overtown, Midtown, Upper Eastside... I could go on forever, but South Beach has never been a part of the city. Get it! Got it! Good!
  10. Because hearing loss is not a good thing. Venues I think forgot loud music is bad for you, and I can't tell you how many times I left a venue with my ears ringing and I'm already partially deaf in one ear. Great!

per #4, if people enjoy music and want to support it, pay for it. Seriously, thier's(Musicians/labels/promoters/disributors/etc.) is an industry which needs money to thrive on. I call this place "The City of Entitlement." One more reason Miami is behind the curve...

If you're promoting or performing you should be comped...how else do you make money(bar GT aside)?

Yea, and I thought about that, but for every 40 people the scored a $1,000 plus think about it, they were sponsored by Urban Outfitters, which covered some costs.

Anyway, I guess what I am saying if I paid $25 for every event I went to this past weekend, I'd be a broke man. Remember, I was out there doing coverage and at some points I would have rather been home sleeping off the strep throat not in a smokey, crowded venue. Let us no forget the city jacked up parking prices from $10 to $15 as well :)

#11. If you're not 21+... you're weekend will fucking suck. And any ass you kissed all year long to get by these stupid restrictions won't fucking matter because there's a line down the block of people waiting to get in therefore the fact that your 6 months shy of the right age does not matter. Cute dress though. Try again next year.
Geez roomate, there is simply no pleasing you!

Suzy you know when you ride with the MN crew you don't have to worry about silly age restrictions. As for #8, I personally love Euro's. Keep coming cause the rest of the south american and northern tourists suck.

Some say I have a bit of a diva behavior... I just like to think I'm hard to please :)

In my dream world, WMC would be where all the DJs come to Miami to play just for me!

why you gots ta dis the northern tourists b.a.c.? you know you got love up north son.

honestly, i can't imagine anyone travelling to wmc from outside the city. it has to be one of the most obscene, inbred, cluster fucked festivals i've ever seen. sure, all the heavy hitters show up, but so does every e-tard and coke whore within flying distance of a locked bathroom stall. south beach last saturday looked like space threw up on it. . .
Back to work, adwhore!!! We won't have you maple syrups invading our shit.

I agree with most of the points made 1-10. I also had to pay friday but it was well worth it. I did notice some other events around were charging $40 +. The cover charge should be based on the talent not on the basis that it's wmc and everyone thinks they can demand such large covers with weak line ups.
Miami nights NOW that WMC is over lets see some more coverage on night life events relating to art/film/fashion or your local commentary on miami's local political mess.
Ohhh no...here we go....viva le flame!

javier,

Don't worry, I am super fkn sick of typing 'Mstrkrft.' We are DONE WITH WMC AT LAST!

But we have to be ready, memorial day is coming up..

Lack did we order the bullet proof vests for Memorial Day club coverage yet?

i want to also mention that the name of the next Miami Night's party should be INTERVENTION. OR THE REHAB ROOM. I'll DJ.

Javier that's exactly why the charge $40 bucks. Locals may not want to pay it, but pill poppin' Eurotrash already probably spent $2,000 to get to Miami, what's a few more bucks?

Was it just me, or did Friday at Studio A seem like the European Union was in session? I saw some Germans in gear that went out of style when the Berlin Wall fell.

B.A.C. - not even uttering "I work for Miaminights.com... I'm the designated blow job queen" impressed that door man.
two more fashion related (i know, i'm a homo. . .) items for the top ten list:
11. the days of the ironic D.A.R.E. shirt are numbered. i get it. you're on drugs. your pupils look like frying pans and you have a crusted-blood-hitler-mustache. it's kind of funny. but not when there are twelve of you at the same party.
12. leaving your dr. seuss designed hoodie in the up position while in the club doesn't make you look gangsta. it makes you look like an uncircumcised penis. it's 75F down there at night, leave the hoodies for the boys who need them up north.
Damn is nobody gonna retaliate to this hateful Canadians rant? C'mon hoodie people stand up for you and your fake billionaire boys club entourage!

true true! so gald it's over!
don;t get me started on the Puma add flashing behind the stagwe while Digitalism played on Friday...There's advertising and then there is blatent annoying sponsorship.

In response to Duran from my orginal comment-I am a DJ, I play and promote music. I still buy records out of respect for the artists and thier hard work. I run the Miami Music Guide and I still pay for events that represent hard work and creativity. I guess it's all a matter of personal values, and that is relative...to each his own.
