i hope that rsvp list is really free... i hate when that shit is just a front!

last week i got there around 12:30 or 1 and they didn't check the list at all. i'm not saying it will be the same this week, but i am giving you reason to hope.

This event sucked!!! The people at the door are assholes. Anybody with any self-respect will stay away from these people and their lame events...

Man, same shit at Mansion last night. Kid Cudi was performing, there was a flyer i was emailed saying FREE with RSVP before 12:30. we were at the door at 12:05 after waiting in line for like 40 minutes. they told us the guest list was closed and it was $20. ASSHOLES.

I went to the opening night of Dirty Hairy at LIV. I found the venue to be a total mismatch for the downtown scene. It's too glam with it's bottle service oriented space, bouncers in every corner and $14 cocktails...let's see if this lasts.

I think this party is somewhat the result of electro going mainstream (see Power 96 and kid cudi's success)

I was very disappointed, to say the least. A lot of waiting at the rope while the promoters ushered their friends to the front of the crowd and into the club. One expects a little of that, but this shit was out of hand. The promoters (Poplife, etc) really perpetuated the whole South Beach f*#^ery of it all. Talk about letting success go to your head. After last night, I am completely over this whole club bullshit - downtown, South Beach, whatever. Yeah, it was that bad...

I was really nervous when I saw the size of that crowd. I get intimidated in crowded spaces like that, sometimes. Luckily I was able to sneak through, but I can totally understand your situation.

From their perspective, maybe they *had* to do that due to the incredible number of people there? I don't have an inside line, but from what I know of the poplife people, they wouldn't do that just to show off.

Some big acts were there last night. Honestly what do you expect? As for the bouncer issue, Poplife really has no control on the asshole level.

ok enuf about the crowd. im so bitter i didnt get a chance to go to this party. how was diplo's set? how long did he play for?

he played for.. i suppose 2-3 hours. it was good. started off very hard with a lot of the common electro anthems, and then diverged into stranger, housier/dancier territory. no complaints about his music at all.

chromeo's set, by contrast, was absolutely terrible, with a lot of sudden volume changes, songs cut off abruptly in the middle (like slamming from one track to the other, but very abruptly), and even some train wrecking! i was shocked.

I expect to be treated with some degree of courtesy. It's the promoter's themselves that were the assholes, not the bouncers. If one says (the dumbass with that cheesy stache and wolf mask), and this is a quote, "first come, first serve," and my girlfriend and I are the next people in line, I expect that we should be the next to get in. Right? It shouldn't be a flock of hipsters from the back of the crowd that get in next. And, what about that bullshit RSVP thing. What a farce that was...

Chromeo's set was the worst thing I have ever heard in my life. Even someone who didn't know how to DJ could've done a better job then that. Their transitions, selection, blending, volume balance ALL SUCKED RHINO cock.

I was really surprised. I mean they play all around the world.. how could they allow such a poor presentation? And furthermore the set got worse as time went on. Perhaps they were having equipment problems? Something else? What's the inside story?

If that was the case then you are right. If the promoter said that then he should have been decent and let you in then the hipsters. The girl at the door of the Vagabond does this very well.

I think it's funny to see the how the clashing of the two worlds (dwntwn/sobe) seems to rustle everyone's feathers. wasnt the indie scene an answer to the sobe bs door polices? silly kids

woops double post. but yeah, i think it goes like this.

touring musicians can save all kinds of money booking dj spots since they don't have to travel with stage equipment. they can show up with a stack of cds and be good to go. many artists, mostly electronic artists do this. sadly many will do it regardless of their experience djing.

Hell, chromeo knows they will have a packed night just with their name on the ticket. its a given. they don't have to really do much entertaining once the heads are in there and paid the cover. its a sad growing trend in electronic music performers, but what the hey, i usually have low expectations when i see artists on the ticket with just a "dj set"

its almost as if they are getting paid to merely show up to a venue and get drunk.

but they've djed many times before. its not like its their first time, even though thats how it sounded

I thought Diplo killed it. one of the best sets ive seen in that genre ever. I had a great time. and fuck... it was free to get in! awesome!

Guys if you don't have pull at the door, then show up earlier. Plane and simple... its enough that we put together the events and try and make them free in the biggest possible venue. We opened the doors at 10 and yet people insist on getting their fashionably late when we are slammed... If we did a ticket presale and guaranteed the people who purchased tickets admission then I'm sure we'd have another whole slew of people bitching about the cover. We can't please everyone!! and for the record when we are packed at the door like that and a random guy yells at me "i've been here for 20 minutes! let me in" and I was simply telling him the reality of the situation which was "sorry, it's NOT first come first serve" at that point in the night... and yeah i was letting my friends in, that must make me an asshole with a mustache. Just show up earlier, stop bitching about nothing, or simply dont come. Its that easy.

Pull at the door? So that's what it's come to? You should put that on the invites..."if you don't have pull at the door, don't waste your time." I mean that is pretty much my whole point. I guess it's all about cronyism, or what you look like. So what separates you from the rest of the South Beach bullshit now?

i was really sick and made it out... that night was just about the music. i went to hear diplo no drinking just hi and bye iam trying to hear the dj type night. .first. chromeo sucks ass . best part is when dave stops the music to yell some bullshit about this next track is the best in the world WTF !!!anyone remember that towards the end of the set .some wack ass tune that made no sense in the set ah i cant remember the track lol... but they sucked . the fat dude cant catch a beat and Dave acutally mixed once or twice over all they sucked assssss..diplo was great... solid mixing with good dancing beats .a great look of what wmc is going to be .like ...at one point he had the people jumping so hard it kinda had the wmc vibe .glad i went and had a good time . as for u people not getting in and waiting in line.that just dumb who waits in line anyways. get there early.speak to the people at the frontand dont ask stupid qestions .let them know u are on a list and u and your party are ready to go in.that EASY
