A friend of mine, who grew up in Miami but has since struck out as a country musician in Texas (as unlikely as that sounds), just sent me an interesting question:
do you think you know anyone who could get a cured manatee skin? i want to make boots out of one.
Apparently the Native Americans used to do just that but, like scalping, it seems to have fallen out of favor with the moral set. I think these $2000 Linea boots would look fantastic in manatee, personally. Of course if you end up smelling like the shit-tank at Seaworld that might be a different story.
So what do you guys think? Anyone know where to find a recently-harpooned sea cow?
