Stupid Requests with Jessica K: Ectoplasm for Breakfast Edition

I've rewritten this like 7 times, and every time im about to post, a ghost flies by and drips ectoplasm all over my motherboard, causing my computer to explode in a burst of smoke and goo.

I'm not rewriting.  deal with it.

My lovely previous post was full of factual, partially truthful and semi-not-made-up statements about todays' non stupid request, Armand Van Helden. This one will be brief, seeing as how everyone whines that my posts are too long. Here's a break. Don't get used to it.

Van Helden was born in Boston in 1970 and began DJing in 1985, at the age of 15. He now lives in New York, a fact which greatly influences his music and especially his videos. The ghetto-house style and hip-hop influenced vocals in his newer work emulate the New York attitude that he's become an icon of.

Armand hit it big in 1997 with his remix of Tori Amos's "Professional Widow" which went straight to number 1 in the UK. Unfortunately, he didn't make a a single cent from the remix seeing as how it was noncommissioned. It did however, lead him to opportunities remixing The Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk, Puff Daddy, Puffy, and P. Diddy. Impressive.

He's pretty legendary as far as house and dance music goes, gaining his first Number 1 from an original track with "U Don't Know Me" from his 1999 album 2Future4U.

His newest album, Ghettoblaster, is full of hits as far as I'm concerned. Except here in the US, we generally don't consider house music hit-worthy, let alone Top 40 material. Don't cry, you live in Miami. House music is a part of our culture, just like sand in your crack and crack in your nose.

Here's the video for "I Want Your Soul" which features a sample from Siedah Garret's 1985 track "Do You Want It Right Now"

Look out for the unnecessary reminder of whose video you're watching at around 2:03 in. Just incase you forgot!

Not streaming anything right now since the ectoplasm has rendered my computer slow like the loser of a walker race and it refuses to load the player.

Great write up Miss Who

I’ve been doing some research and I’m almost postive that Van Helden remix of “Professional Widow” was an offical released by both him and record label, Atlanitc Records. Because it appears on Tori's Single for the track. Which would mean he did make something off of it.

I'm curious where did you heard that or read that?
It may have been an official release, meaning he made money from his label or the atlantic, but nothing from royalties or from tori amos for actually making it in the first place. i'm not doubting he could have made money from somewhere, but i do know it was not commissioned by her or her label.

in other news...
someone just got shot at the urban wear store on oakland park blvd. let's go to broward!
toot toot. beep beep.
