Shilla Korean Restaurant
7917 Northwest Second Court
Miami, FL 33150-2922

Open Hours: 11a-10:30p M-Sa, noon-10:30p Su

There are some forms of cuisine that are well represented in the Miami area: Cuban, bad Italian and sushi. When you have a hankerin’ for some Korean, you have few choices.

Shilla is a super cute family-style joint with good prices (around $11 per entree) but slow service. The bulgogi (the beef slop pictured above) is cooked however you want at your own burner at the table and served with cucumber, kimchee, rice noodles and other small sides. It’s delicious and a fun and welcome diversion from the usual boring options (until you wait 25235 minutes to get the bill). It’s located across the street from Mall of the Americas, which is like the Miami version of Lebanon, so roll 6 deep and take all the yellow lights just to be safe.

I used to go there a lot a few years ago - it was an occasional treat for lunch when I worked in Doral, and even took my wife there a couple of times. I personally love Korean BBQ, and its sorely lacking here in S. Florida - the only other place I know of is somewhere in Aventura (I think), and living in Kendall (don't laugh) its too much of a haul to go there.

I will say this - the last time I went there with my spouse it was TERRIBLE. We ordered the Pork and Steak BBQ - already cooked not on the table top grill. The Pork was good (as usual) however the steak was extremely freezer burned. And since the lady/owner there barely speaks english, I decided to suck it up and eat it because I was so hungry. Thankfully I didn't get sick from it, and its been at least 2 or 3 years since I last went - mostly because of this bad experience with the freezer burned meat. I still am itching to go back, but unfortunately my wife is far less forgiving.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt and recommend everyone go there and try it - most of the times I went the food was good - the only exception was that one and last time i went. Also try their spicy beef soup - its HUGE and amazing - it will clear out your sinuses for sure - great when you have a cold (for real).
Mall of the Americas like Lebanon?? Why, because, god forbid, the stores are less than upscale, and not so much English is spoken? Where the hell are you from that you think this place is scary? When I lived further west I used to go to the movies here (CHEAP twilight tix!) all the time, and without incident.

Who wrote this? Definitely not Duran or the other guys. It shows. They would never say something so clueless.
Dude, that neighborhood is fuckin terrible. The streets are full of potholes and thugs, all the buildings are dirty or in disrepair (such as that strip mall where the All-in-One is) and it's dangerous as hell with all those nasty kids running around causing chaos and destroying shit.

And I grew up in Springs and went to the movies there too. It doesn't mean that Flagler isn't a hellhole.

I stand by my comment.

nope ive never stepped foot in Mall of the Americas... so i can't comment. although i've heard nothing but horror stories. no this was written by the man whose teet the entire Miami Night's crew suckles from... Lackner.
Ghost of Miami Nights Past
It's ugly, to be sure, but no way in hell is it dangerous. God forbid peopel live there who take buses or shop at Marshall's, and can't afford even to live along, oh, the Biscayne corridor. Stop judging a neighborhood by how its residents look (unless you're talking about Williamsburg, BK, in which case, judge away).
it's not about their level of income.. Kendall is much nicer, so is Miami Lakes.. Check the graffiti around Mall of the Americas, it's all gang related and Coral Park is a good place to get shanked. Flagler is seedy.

except that flannigans on 12th ;)

and i never said midtown/CBD was any better in terms of crime. i'm just saying that area is hood.

I went to middle and high school just 5 minutes from Mall of the America's and in the 3 years I attended I can remember arrests on a daily basis with gang related violence and myself and friends getting jumped in front of the high school. As for Mall of the America's, they have a hidden gem of a Nordstrom outlet there but the rest of the mall is pretty crappy.

I love that Chinese place by the west entrance too. Mmmmm

don't you think a lot of that garbage goes on in front of ANY middle/high school in miami? i went to coral gables and there was plenty of that stuff even there. it's because teenagers are idiots.

don't ever mention the nordstrom outlet where hipsters can see it ever, ever again.
I had long hair at Springs and was always being stupid as fuck and I never got jumped, I'll have you know.

Let's face it: Pitbull is from Coral Park. NUFF SAID!

"not a chance" is obviously employed at Mall of the Americas. A little sensitivity please, lackner.
Not sure cause after my parents ganked me from those schools I went to a Baptist school then moved to Guatemala.

as for the N store in the MoA...I shall remain silent.

Okay, I work at the mall (not the stores, but the Tiger offices...). The ONLY saving grace is Potatoes Plus... THE best baked potatoes.

And there is NO Nordstrom outlet here. There is a store called "Last Chance" where you can purchase "last chance" items that at one time in their life may have hung on a Nordstrom's rack. Most of the clothes look like they are used. But I heard you get a free STD with every purchase from the undergarment bin.

Is it dangerous? Nah. However, car thefts are really, really high in the parking lot. They have even stolen the headlights from the CEO Porsche (and he parks in the first spot). Tiger actually donated security cams to keep an eye on the parking lot.
Chris: Shhhhhhhhhhhh, You cannot mention that name in a public setting. It's a well kept secret and we don't want the hipsters invading a store that on occasion has gems.

Update: Managed to convince my wife last night to go (after 2+ years since the freezer burned meat incident). And it was great. We shared a spicy beef/vegetable soup and the Daiji Bulgoki (Korean BBQ Pork). We stayed away from the BBQ Meat ;-> Anyhow place looks the same except that it is now part of the Japanese restaurant next door - you now have to enter the sushi place, walk toward the rear where the sushi bar is, tell them you want Korean BBQ, hang a left and you are there. Service was good too. My only concerns - no obvious signs outside to indicate the Korean BBQ place still exists - only a neon "Sushi" sign - also the crowd looks about the same - maybe 10 people tops (mostly Asians) for a Saturday night in "lebanon"
It was funny when I went to compare the mostly Hispanics and anglos eating sushi in the packed sushi side to the super ethnic Koreans in the mostly empty Korean part.

[...] If you hate your Mom’s bistec empanizado or your local restaurants meat slop we can sympathize. But if for some reason your craving a cocktail and a hamburger (no not a great mix I know) but aren’t looking to get trashed on a Tuesday night the people of Pink Elephant in NYC and Spoonfed have just what you need. Pink Elephant has rented out the old Rain space on Washington and 23 st. They’re bringing back Home Cookin for one night only. Home Cooking was a 7 yr running party that happened at groovjett, rain and readybar. It’s basically a locals party with a Tuesday laid back feel. Musical selection includes soul, hip-hop, funk and mash ups (Lackner’s MORTAL ENEMY!). A bbq (Cooked heart attacks) will be offered for you carnivore’s free of charge. [...]
We love last chance and go anytime we are in Miami. Yes, some of the clothes are used and returns but if you don't mind going to Salvation Army or any other type thrift shop, then Last Chance is for you. In fact, you can get new clothes there with the tags still on them at steep discount prices. You have to check every thing you select for damage or tears or pen marks etc. but you will find new clothes there without any thing wrong with them. I have many many items from this store and it is the best store in the Mall of the Americas along with Marshalls, Ross and Tiger Direct.
#13 - maby you don't wash your underware before you wear it?? To make this comment - means you are afraid to go in to the store? We have gotten top of the line Hanro and other expensive brands there and enjoy everyone we purchase and they are without any marks, tears or pen marks with the labels still attached. So, if you do not want to dig the racks, this is not the place for you. This weekend, I purchased mens pants for $7.50 that were originally marked at $186.00 each and still had all the labels on all 4 pairs in perfect retail quality.
You can think of it this way. The Mall is old and this is the way it is. Not a Simon property like Boca Mall where you get abducted and shot after you pay top retail - So, this Boca Mall is an example just like the Mall of Americas only it can cost you your life. This is south Florida folks and things can happen anywhere. We have never had any issues with anyone in the Mall of Americas and like the Cuban culture and people there and everyone has always treated us very well.
I don't know what world your living in - oh wait - you grew up in Miami Springs - enough said! You must be a drug addict or a recovering one. That area is not as bad as you described. Trouble is anywhere in Miami - if you look for it you'll find it and it will find you. I was in Miami Springs a month ago, visiting a friend when we heard a shot and a few minutes later cops arrived - a drug related suicide. It happens everywhere and the neighborhood near Mall of Americas is not that bad.

Seriously, you're gonna compare Miami Springs to the area surrounding Mall of the Americas? I know your full of shit when you try that ludicrous analogy.

I've been dying to go try his Korean BBQ place, but I still haven't finished my copy of Defense of the Dark Arts for Dummies.
gimme a beat!
Quite right! It seems to me it is good idea. I agree with you.
I have a fresh joke for you) Did you hear about the two men who walked into a bar? The third one ducked.
