Segafredo, JC Penny, Sushi Samba, Ocean Drive Cafe coming to Midtown Miami Mall

Downtown dwellers rejoice! Midtown is extremely convenient but discount big box retail shopping is a bore. According to a Midtown press release (warning: PDF), many more stores are in store for this sprawling outdoor mall. Apparently contracts have been inked with Segafredo, the trendy Lincoln Road cafe and super gay meat market; Ocean Drive and the new Ocean Drive Cafe, an upscale and surely douchey eatery; JC Penny, where I buy my discount hosiery; and Sushi Samba, which will now be my go-to place for sushi, since I find Sushi Siam annoyingly remote and expensive.

If all this happens, I think the rest of the spaces will fill very quickly. This will accelerate the already rapid rate of improvement in this neighborhood and make it something close to livable. Awesomeness.

Sushi Samba coming to the mainland? For reals?

but does the world really need another sushi samba? eh... the other one is a drive away and not, technically, in a mall. any idea where in the complex the cafes are going to set up shop? i'm not sure how pleasant sidewalk dining would be facing north miami ave. : /
there are some areas where the shops face inside the complex, so it wouldn't be too bad.

My one and only dine n dash was sushi samba. It was very well-deserved. Wuegh!
Yeah really - screw the Sushi Samba enterprise. Overpriced, overcrowded sad excuse for a creative Sushi restaurant. I'll keep going to Domo Japones or across the causeway for something decent.

Although I may make the trip for the 15 dollar brunch if they bring it over.

The goddamn Midtown Mall needs to get its shit together and throw down a movie theater. Fuck going to Lincoln Road every time I want to watch a movie.
Does this rag smell like chloroform to you?
On the Miami Skyscraper City website someone was saying they were going to install an IMAX theater, which would be interesting. I couldn't find any real evidence of that, so I didn't post it.

Also, am I the only person that wasn't that impressed by Domo?

I think Domo deserves praise for actually making some pretty different tasting sushi rolls (pesto, sundried tomatoes AND prosciutto?) and keeping prices nice and cheap. That being said - the quality of the actual fish isn't anything to write a love letter about, either.

I still find myself crossing the causeway and eating Shoji Sushi pretty much every goddamn time.

I agree that Domo is innovative, but the end result wasn't as tasty as I'd like. Freshness is key when it comes to sushi. Shoji is incredible. I like the freshness (and lower prices) of Sushi Rock as well.

Why can't someone put a bookstore at Midtown, for God's sakes. I like the Sushi Samba idea, tho.
a bookstore is tremendously needed in downtown, midtown, and areas surrounding.
I agree. Maybe Books and Books will drop in since they already have a location at Lincoln Rd like the other businesses mentioned in this article.

mega bookstore, the imax cinema, a few designer shops furniture, clothing , please a wholefood market or epicure and get the ball rolling on some trendy cafes ....a few galleries and some extension of art and design district galleries and shops into midtown and this area will come alive and call for the streetcar development
As you were saying that I realized you were exactly describing Sunset Place and I wanted to puke

A Whole Foods and cinema is going in one of the Met buildings Downtown.

I think that's supposed to be Met3, which is very much delayed and facing some troubles. Anyone want to correct me on this?
