http://www.santomiamibeach.comI was invited to a birthday dinner for a friend at Santos this weekend and cordially accepted. Being the dinner and evening were free how could I decline? Anyhow, I love trying new restaurants and new clubs so it was a perfect arrangement. I was told the place was on Lincoln which immdiately told me I should probably dress the part of “South Beach clubber” a.k.a Nice shiny pointy black shoes, tight long sleeve and slick pants. Unfortunately there was no inside seating so we had to endure the unbearable Miami humidty in full clubbing regalia. To add insult to sitting outside it took the waiter 20 f*cking minutes to bring us 4 cups of wine! Then after about 30 minutes after ordering cold appetizer plates and not recieving them we were told the computer had a glitch and we would have to re-order. Why does it take 30 minutes to realize the POS computer isn’t working? Oh ya, we were also told the kitchen was closing and we wouldn’t make it passed appetizers (anyone find the humor in that? Me neither). I guess it would have been alright had my tuna tartar been exceptional. Rather, it was quite NORMAL. As was the ceviche and wontons. Appetizers will run you $10-15. Main courses will set you back $30-40. Glasses of wine $9-15.
Putting our very average meal aside we decided to go dancing in the club. To my surprise they were playing a good set of Progressive House. THe ambiance was also a nice surprise. The club is a large rectangular space with a stage for the resident band. People were beautiful, drinks were flowing and everyone semed to be having a good time. My only problem was the club had the tinniest bar at one end which made for the worst headaches to get drinks. If that wasn’t bad enough the only other bar was at the entrance of the club forcing you to wait whether you liked it or not. My verdict: The club was great, the food and service were nothing special.
