Rotten Apple @ Set

Girls dressed in American Apparel? Lazaro Casanova? Quirky weekly name? Am I at Revolver? Nope. It's the new hipster night Rotten Apple at Set, brought to you by the Opium Group, Empire Events, Gorillas Revolution and Supermarket Creative. Last week they had a soft opening tied in with the Factory Girl movie (which I've heard nothing but awful things about, especially Sienna Miller's acting, so yea I'm gonna pass), but this Thursday is the official grand opening with what I presume will be their resident DJs Neil Armstrong (like the astronaut?) and Lazaro Casanova. They also encourage you to join them for cocktails from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (I wonder if it's free?). I'll probably stop by this week, but like everything on South Beach, I'm weary and hope that it isn't reprocessed and packaged to appeal to the masses and tourists on the beach. Then again, the Opium Group has been throwing some interesting curve balls ever since Art Basel, so I definitely have some high expectations. Plus, I still think Casanova is one of Miami's best DJs.

It is. Oh well. I saw someone get turned away for wearing jeans and sneakers last week. But then I got in fine with my Adidas. Maybe it was the hair. Anyways, I didn't see a hint of anything new (sound track consisted of "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and "Holiday" with some cheesy CD scratching in between.

I hear that they are opening a second area called Heathrow in the club which I assume is where the indie influence and Laz are going to be. And the 11am to 12:30 is open bar (it ended at 12 last week though).
My boy Vas did the sound for that club. The loudest system on the beach at the moment. Apparently the bass drops so much that a cigarette will fly out from in between your fingers...and the DJs still complain it's not loud enough!

Maybe he didnt position the monitors properly. That shit would piss me off soooo much if I were a pro.. I see a ton of clubs with fucked up monitoring setups.
pop lock and drop it
I think CNTRL was using hyperbole to make a point about DJ's
ehh, what do I know...
It's never loud enough for the DJ, it's absurd...on the beach about 95% of the booths I have been in have more than enough headroom(for sound), the set-ups work perfectly.

Yes, that's great and all...but what is up with the flyer and the pretentious Oscar Wilde quote. The picture looks like an add for a sale at Burdines or an add for an upcoming sitcom about four snobby rich girls who get into a heap of trouble and monkey shines each week, always to be saved by daddy's omnipotent wallet.
Truth is called looking bored or aloof... I think it's what's in now. I haven't perfected it yet.
Ghost of Miami Nights Past
The "Bored and aloof" look is actually quite prevalent in Miami... and sad to say it has been here for some time now. People need to learn how to smile in this goddamn town. I myself have mastered the "What the fuck is going on here?" look, which I masterd from my old man. It is a good counter attack, for the "cara mierda" look.
