Review: SNIP Salon

With the economy in the toilet, all my beauty treatments have been suspended until further notice. That means plucking my own eyebrows, painting my own nails and buying Queen Helene’s $3.99 Mint Julep Facial Mask at CVS. Oh, the horror! There’s nothing like settling for beer budget beauty solutions when you’re a gal with champagne taste.

Lucky for us there’s SNIP Salon. Located on 456 Arthur Godfrey Road in a building that used to house the CIA headquarters, SNIP can wax and peel perfection without requiring fingerprints or 49 forms of ID. Offering the works: haircuts, manicures, pedicures, facials, massage and hair removal of all kinds.

My esthetician, Natalia is a jack-of-all-beauty-trades. Not only does she give a mean facial but she also specializes in eyebrow waxing and eyelash extensions. Hailing from Slovakia, she holds a BA in skincare and a minor in Art. I didn’t even know you could major in skincare – apparently European skincare standards are a bit more evolved than our own. According to Beautydirectory.com, Florida estheticians need to complete only 260 hours of training before they can apply for a cosmetology license. I don’t know about you but 260 hours doesn’t seem to add up to the amount of time spent earning a 4-year degree. Perhaps that’s the reason I didn’t break out after this facial.

My face has the tendency to erupt like a 12-year-old boy hitting puberty. That’s why I usually skip the facial and go straight for the full body massage. Natalia however cleared my worries and my skin while shaping my eyebrows too. SNIP Salon is a one-stop beauty shop with reasonable prices and a friendly, far-from-fake atmosphere.

SNIP is holding its grand opening on February 9 at 6 p.m. Come get your nails done and your hair did.
