Review: O Asian Grill

Saturday night I was invited out to check out O Asian Grill at 330 Lincoln Road, South Beach. As a non-fish eater, I tend to shy away from Japanese or pan-Asian restaurants because their focus tends to be sushi or other things of the same nature. But I was pleased to see that O’s menu, which was a country-style Asian inspired menu, took the focus away from sushi (which they had) to a full kushiyaki skewer menu.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s first talk about ambience. O Asian Grill is located where Rumi once held fort. While I can’t compare it to its previous incarnation, I do have to say O’s decorations are definitely impressive. When you walk in you have to pass by their very affordable and, from what I hear, very tasty noodle bar. On the first floor, they’ve managed to create a nice upscale bar atmosphere with a magnificent wooden chandelier that soars up high into the rafters. As you are walked to your table, which the restaurant portion is located on the second floor, you can't help but to look in amazement at this immense light fixture. Although dimly lit, mirrored walls and careful accent lighting make for comfortable dining.

Now back to the menu. Prices were on the pricey side, but a lot of things are meant to be shared, so me and my date, the wonderful part-time Qpony model Sarah, shared the 8-skewer platter which included teriyaki chicken breast, negi chicken, prime rib-eye, salmon, shishito peppers, tsukune (chicken meatballs), shrimp and Japanese pork sausage. Everything was grilled to perfection, nothing too dry or charred beyond recognition. As a side we had a grilled rice patty brushed with soy sauce, which was surprisingly tasty and good on its own.

After dinner, which didn’t look like a lot on the plate, but was very filling, we shared an amazing chocolate molten soufflé with a side of vanilla ice cream. The chocolate was rich and its flavor probably enhanced with a splash of espresso. It was warm at the beginning and nice and cool in the center. The vanilla ice cream helped you clean your pallet a bit incase you were suffering from chocolate overload or you could go for double the sugar rush by pairing up the ice cream and chocolate.

O definitely left a positive impression on me. Food was amazing, service great and atmosphere superb (have I exhausted enough synonyms?). I personally cannot wait to go back and dine again. If making reservation, use the best website ever created OpenTable.com, which also takes reservation at many of Miami's best restaurants.

Def if anyone goes order the chocolate desert. Duran and I were giggling like little school children while eating it. And Duran felt a little dirty. ;)
I'll have the cream of sumyun gai.

Sorry, had to be said.
