My jaw dropped upon arriving to Studio A on Sunday night. The line outside looked longer than a line for The Hulk on Thanksgiving weekend. As I sneakily move my way to the front, I realize I did not get the memo regarding the key accessory for the night: a chaperon. This place was infested with teeny-boppers galore. In fact, I saw an actual toddler; a 3-year-old even came out with his baby mama to belt out "Lollipop." I was turned off severely, until I remembered who everyone (including myself) was there to see - the delightful Mika.
After getting inside the venue, I begin to listen to the opening act. She was terrible enough to not even remember her name. But I did remember this, every song she sang sounded as if it would be on the soundtrack of the Gilmore Girls. She was as you say "mad whack." Then finally, the glorious Mika came out on stage. He looked oh so sexy in his tight white blazer and fitted marching pants. He opened the show with "Relax", and could not of picked a better opening number. Mika was giving off such a positive vibe with his energetic motions and sexual thrusts. And yes, he does sing just as high pitch live as he does on the CD.
This was Mika's 8th stop on his first ever US tour. He didn't get too personal with the crowd, but boy did he shake it! Mika was turning the crowd on with die-hard passion in his eyes; he was into his show like I never imagined possible. He performed every song on his CD, and a couple other random tracks, including a remake of Sweet Dreams.
I have to say that the climax of the show was when a shirtless Mika brought in the noise, brought in the funk and begin beating a trashcan with drumsticks! After seeing that, he had me wishing it was me he was beating with his drumstick (if you know what I mean). The grand finale was just that - grand. Giant balloons in every color, bubble machines, and confetti blessed the audience as he sang his heart out to "Lollipop."
The show left me wanting more. If only I could take the high-pitch supernova to my apartment and have him serenade me with love tunes. Maybe one day that will happen, but for now I will have to be satisfied with what I got, a concert to remember and some chaperons to forget.
