Proof we don't need a new baseball stadium in Miami

Do we really want our taxes to subsidize a stadium that will be empty like the pic below? I don't care how many tickets the Marlins sold, the fact that people think the money they spent on the tickets and the time it takes to get to a stadium and watch a game is basically worthless says alot.

Fewer than 600 people were in Dolphin Stadium's bright orange and aqua seats for the first pitch, leaving most of them to reflect the afternoon sun. While the official attendance, based on tickets sold, was 11,211, the ballpark was so quiet that home-plate chatter could be heard.

I am a HUGE Marlins fan, yet I have only attended two games this season. Why? Simple. 1. The stadium is way to far away from Miami for a college student to be able to afford the gas and parking. 2. I see a cloud in the sky and know it's gonna rain over there. If the stadium is built in the proposed site, I can take the Metro to get there, do not need to pay for parking, and do not need to worry about rain because it will have a roof. I guarantee they will have MUCH MUCH MUCH larger attendance if it was built. I understand there's better things the money can be used for, but losing the Marlins will be a travesty and hurt our community. We will loose many charities and money. The stadium will open up many new jobs, bring the All-Star game to Miami, a final round of the World Baseball Classic, and hopefully many other events in the future.
Not worth it.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.

You make a good point- esp the transportation part. Going to see a Heat game isn't nearly as difficult what with the AAA being right on Biscayne adjacent to Bayside, publlic (rapid) transport. I am not the biggest sports fan but I know how fun live sporting events are and I, for one, would be all for going to watch a Marlins game if it were more accessible
gimme a beat!
I totally agree ... I love sports and I would love to attend more baseball games but 1) if you have a couple of beer and drive back to miami or kendall de pipi ... 2) the rain issue is major ... you drive for rain shit sucks as well ... 3) if you go to any major city you have the ball park near or around the downtown area... I'm a really do think it will change people way of thinking about baseball an dhave something to do near by ...

I WANT THE BALL PARK ... BRING THE MARLINS ... and KISS MY ASS BRAMAN
You all have good arguments but consider the Dolphins. How many people drive, rain or shine, heat or cold, drunk or sober to and from that stadium every Sunday to support their team?

You have to ask yourselves, are you really good Marlin fans if something like driving or rain will stop you from going to a good portion of all the games? That's why I can't imagine a stadium working in Little Havana. if there were good Marlin fans (like Dolphin and Cane fans) then I would reconsider, but always seeing year after year empty stadium seats I can't support your arguments.

Yeah but the Dolphins have only 7 home games. So naturally if you're a football fan then you get your ass out there bcause it's only 7 times in a season and always on Sunday except for the Monday Night Footbal games (which I don't think Miami has any this season). You really can't compare the two.
gimme a beat!
UPDATE: the Marlins have 8 home games in the month of September alone.
gimme a beat!
Well, jeez, we only need 30,000 more people like Commenter 0 and it will all be worth it. Piece of cake.
A new stadium will bring in many more fans. Cities that got new stadiums saw their attendance grow. Plus, the new stadium in Miami will pull more people for each game. Baseball is a daily game that needs to be in the city. Most new stadiums are in the city and have caused revivals of the area and baseball. Look at Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Houston and Baltimore. Football only plays several home games a year so driving somewhat far for the Dolphins isn't too bad. Although the Hurricanes are playing too far from home. Students need a shorter commute for games.
I totally agree ... I'm a Fins Fan as well and I have been since 1984 with season tickets ... But you need to remember football is one day ... Sundays , I'm willing to do anything to attend one game ... Now on baseball its 7 days a week so there that is a little mission with RAIN, COPS, and the DAMN DRIVE ...
They better put a fuckin' stadium at the old OB. It's either that or developments, and I for one like our sports to stay inside the city.

Plus they'll rename themselves Miami Marlins, right?
I wouldn't mind a stadium but theres too much public money involved.....If the marlins fold or decide to leave to greener pastures WTF then?

Now if we could have an MLS team in the old OB location that i could go for!!!!

MLS? I hope you were kidding. I would go to MLS games, but if you didn't already know, Miami ha an MLS team which folded rather quickly.

The Miami Fusion. But remember where they played, Lockhart Stadium, EVEN further than Dolphin Stadium. I don't know who the genius was who put a profesional soccer team in the middle of White Lauderdale but it would wholeheartedly work in a city that has a huge Latin population who are huge football (soccer) fans.

Take the example of the Miami FC. A second division team that actually fills Tropical Park Stadium. Imagine having them in a proper stadium in the MLS.
