Okay, I swear last post EVER on chongas or the Chongalicious girls. I promise you'll never hear another word from me concerning the matter. But I just have to applaud the Miami New Times' thorough article on chongas and their lifestyle. They've declared 2007 the Year of the Chongas. Of course, the infamous Chongalicious girls are given quite a bit of mention in the article, but reporter Tamara Lush goes beyond and really tries to get to the bottom of where chonga trend came from. She even goes as far as to hanging out at the Opa-Locka/Hialeah Flea Market and Mall of the Americas. What a brave woman. Anyway, read it because it is a very interesting article on a trend you probably know very little about.

and Laura.. you need to learn some tolerance. We are in fact in the "chonga" capital of the world. Calling them all ignorant is like calling all white girls "red neck crackers" or "Scenester Fashion Victims" or maybe you are latin and are trying to forget your latina roots? Why don't you get out of here and find yourself a place where everyone is like yourself.... and then you can procreat and produce a bunch of inbred hillbillies that look and act exactly like you...or embrace the latina vibe, get some nice golden hoops and scrub da ground.
...but really girl... stop being a negative nelly and start being a bit more of a positive patty. Tolerance is key for a peacful world.

I grew up with girls like this and I've never understood why they have to portray themselves this way and possibly negatively influence younger generations. I think this "trend" hit home as hard as it did because they were the girls I disliked the most while in school and I don't see a positive side of it.
