The Miami New Times finally released its Best Of Miami issue, perhaps one of the most anticipated issues every year. But let's go over shit that actually matters to us here, their choices for Best Bars & Clubs, which I've included my choice had I been able to call it. Oh and full disclosure here: I'm technically a New Times employee, even if it's just part-time.
Their Choice: Space Saturdays (and Sunday afternoons)
My Choice: Space Saturdays (and Sunday afternoons)
Come on, there is no contest here.
Their Choice: Induce
My Choice: Induce, Danny Daze, Matt Cash, Contra, Ross One
That's like asking me what do I like better: sex, drugs or rock 'n' roll? I could never decide.
Their Choice: Shine
My Choice: ?
Fuck if I know. Went to Shine once to see Adam Freeland. Can't honestly say I had a strong opinion about it.
Their Choice: Iggy & The Stooges
My Choice: M.I.A.
I smell old people, and I don't like it. M.I.A. fucking blew the roof off of Studio A. Was the New Times there?
Their Choice: Love Hate Lounge
My Choice: White Room
Since when is Love Hate a dance club? It's a fucking lounge with a bar. Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but the dark horse -- or is it a white horse? -- is definitely the White Room, who proved you don't have to be Space to turn a profit in Downtown Miami.
Their Choice: Lazaro Casanova
My Choice: Lazaro Casanova, Otto Von Schirach, Danny Daze
Again, too hard for me to decide. Lazaro definitely has had the bigger breakthrough this year.
Their Choice: Jose El Rey
My Choice: Jose El Rey
Anyone who sings about ¡Ñooo Que Barato! is a winner in my book.
Their Choice: PS14
My Choice: PS14
I'll admit I'm a bit biased here since I find co-owner Barbara Basti so fetching.
Their Choice: The Vagabond
My Choice: Is Vagabond really a bar?
This should have been labeled Best New Club, no? I love The Vagabond, but I feel like calling it a bar diminishes the fact that it's a full-fledge dance club with three separate rooms.
Their Choice: Overtown and Park West
My Choice: Overtown and Park West
The Beach nightlife scene is O-V-E-R. When is everyone else going to catch up with Miami's urban dwellers?
Their Choice: Poplife
My Choice: Poplife
The Post and Pawn Shop debacle almost killed the night, but when you have smart people behind one of Miami's best party, never, and I mean never, count them out.
Their Choice: Tobacco Road
My Choice: Studio A
Despite all its misfortunes, Studio A treated us to plenty of great shows last year and lets hope many more shows to come.
Their Choice: Miami Live at Santo
My Choice: Money Shot at The Vagabond, Poplife at White Room, Chocolate Sundays at Purdy
Santo is a restaurant the wants to be a club, and I give that Miami Live shit a year until its wiped from our collective memories. I'm sticking with parties with staying power, that have proven themselves time and time again that they will be here for many years to come.

Best Electronic Artist: Laz is great but the dude is NEVER HERE! How can you vote for someone based on their exploits everywhere BUT Miami??? What about Stryke? Conway? Otto? Cedric?
Best afterhours should've gone to Pawn Shop although I guess they meant official after hours vs breakin down the back door and playing around like kids on a playground.
Best Weekly Party: Money Shot Hands down and fans up (see you tonight!)
tsk tsk tsk... people on glass houses should not choke, i mean, throw bricks.
and to answer LL- yes chica, we'll be all up in the Vag tonight.
ew.
