www.churchillspub.comJazz in the ghetto? Well not really the ghetto but financially unstable area. Contrary to regular belief it is true. Apparently this has been a staple at Churchill’s’ for years now and moderately successful at that. I didn’t know what to expect really. The only other times I had been to the ole’ English pub was for rowdy English Premier League matches and some really crap rock show. Jazz and open mic, naaaahhh? I think I should add a disclaimer before I endorse this evening. Churchill’s isn’t for everyone. If you find bar bums to be disgusting this is not your place. IF you don’t want old men hitting on you, then don’t come. If you’re afraid you cars going to get stolen stay at home. If you don’t want no crack hoe calling you papi stay and watch the kids. And above all else, if you don’t like the British accent then forget about this post forever.
The jazz quintet was jamming all night. It was a very nice change from the thumping beats of oldies and 80’s. Chilling on a Monday night with a pitcher o’ale and listening to the blistering bass solo is my kind of night. The open mic was something different as well with a lot of odd characters reciting poetry, political opinions or freestyling on stage. I think what I enjoyed most was the eclectic crowd that showed. Artsy individuals, ghetto looking folk, latinos and old jazz heads. I can live with that.
