Miami Intermodal Center

I'm a geek when it comes to political and infrastructural problems concerning Miami, so one of my favorite blogs apart from Dlisted (love Michael K.) is Transit Miami. The bloggers mainly focus on Miami dependence on automotive transportation instead of effective and reliable public transportation as a means to get around and they provide great examples of other cities who do just that. This blog is what convinced me that I should take the Metrorail to work, and yes I get caught in sudden showers every now and then, and yes the heat can be unbearable at times, but I feel like I'm doing my part to make this city a little better for everyone to live in. Trust me, if the Metrorail worked at night and actually went to popular nighttime destinations (and I wasn't afraid of getting stabbed or being held at gunpoint), I'd using it to go out as night as well.

Anyway, for those not in the know Miami and the state are currently building what we could refer to as Miami's version of Grand Central Station, which will be known as the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). It's a place where you'll able to catch any mode of transportation you desire: city buses, long-distance buses, trains, taxis, Tri-Rail, Metrorail, the airport or rent a car. Well blogger Gabriel Lopez-Bernal brings up some good points on the sustainability of the project and how we can effectively use in the center in the longer run. Take some time out of your day and learn more about a project that could definitely impact the way we get around the city and perhaps the entire state.

this is so futuristic! I don't wanna wait til 2011...seeing as how the world is going to end in 2012...bummer.
toot toot. beep beep.
lol it looks like a giant lake festering mosquito's atm. I swear nothing been done in about 3 years since they broke ground. I guess that's typical Miami though. Let's have a running contest as to how high over budget this thing is gonna go.....I'll hazard to guess $2.5 million (that's a low guess but whatevs)

What are you saying nothing has been done? Plenty has, when I used to drive there every night to go to Jorge's before going out, there were always crews there working. They are prepping dude, you just don't start building.

Yeah the prepping part takes 40% of the time before anything comes out of the ground. I can't wait for those building-building robots to come out so this shit takes 1/4th the time
pop lock and drop it
Are you serious Duran? Aside from the new overpass and the new exit leading out of the Airport nothing but ground flattening has been done (If you consider scattered lakes flattening). Lejune has been in shamble for nearly 3 years now with more pot holes, smaller lanes, and freakishly sharper turns. Sorry dude but I live 5 minutes from the Center and I see it everyday. If you wanna talk progress then the addition of 8 new protable type offices is great movement.

Building-building robots....hahahaha.
Metromover from Cocowalk to the Grove Metrorail. Metromover from Downtown to the Beach. Streetcar for north Miami and the beach. Then maybe I could go out and get drunk without having to drive all over the place.
please, whiny grove residents would NEVER let a metromover "destroy" their quaint "village".

God if we had proper public transportation like other big cities then drinking and driving would never be an option.
