Miami-Dade screws up -- again

Sometimes I feel like taking a rolled-up newspaper and smacking Miami-Dade government over the head and scream "Bad Miami-Dade! No! No!" I mean reading the Herald's article today on how Miami-Dade royally fucked up in maintaining and replacing the old Metro-Rail cars is astonishing but not really that surprising -- I mean this is Miami-Dade we are talking about here.

The county insists the Metro-Rail is safe, but I don't know how many of you have ridden it. I rode it all of last year and basically a crackhouse is nicer than those cars. It's embarrassing that this county doesn't have a clean, safe and reliable rapid mass transit system. It's bad enough it doesn't go anywhere, so the county might as well take people nowhere in style.

Really I don't no what else to say. I want to put Miami-Dade on a time out.

That's a pretty common sentiment down here. You can always expect the government to do the exact opposite of what normally would be considered a "good idea." In other words: a "bad idea."

The rail doesn't scare me so much for safety reasons. I got a lot more freaked out riding the DC Metro (possibly because I was underground and sometimes under rivers). What does bug me is the guarantee that I'll get badgered by a homeless person every single time I get on when it isn't rush hour. I mean, once or twice every so often, ok, have a quarter, but EVERY time? How does this happen?
Some establishments are very permissive with the homeless, some aren't. I guess they feel legally they minimize their risk by not interacting with the homeless at all, despite the fact that they tend to be disgustingly smelly, completely irate and they drive away all the other, bathing riders.

you are so amazing hahahahaha
The pathetic state of Miami public transport will be a recurring theme on Miami blogs for at least 20 more years. There are no proposals that address the problem completely; a new stop here or a tiny tram car won't help. They need a hail mary, gigantic expansion that really gets people to where they need to go with transit times that aren't triple of what it would take in a car.
holy shit i just noticed pedo-bear hanging out in the header. classy :D

With all due respect, I think we are pretty close to having something darn good:

* In-car improvements to the metromover: Do something about the fucking stinky mcstinkertons, fix air conditioning and sporadic power failures

* Add tram on rail line from the end of the Metromover (by the schoolboard building/behind Karu+Y), north to ~79th st.. this pulls in a bit of the northern parts of the east side

* Continue Metrorail expansion plans to rope in the Doral and Sweetwater environment-destroying sleezebags

* Revise hours of operation

That would cover the needs of myself and the people in my immediate group

Totally agree they should destroy metrorail and build the city the way Midtown miami rebuilt the whole area it s nice new clean...with trees and soon parks...

as well they should be the flag for a great station of the new transit system the NEW STREETCAR

I think the city is gonna start receiving many complians id this doesnt happen quickly
