So they say when you are trying to impress a girl you should wine and dine her. I have a new concept...why don’t you try to wine and wine her. This week’s restaurant review takes us to Jakes Bar and Grill. Known as "a watering hole for grownups," it is a refreshing restaurant in the heart of South Miami. While Jakes is known as a bar and grill you wouldn't know it from the amazing atmosphere. Their presentation and layout is one to be admired by all entrepreneurs and I am surprised it isn’t packed every night. Once you walk in you feel like you are in a lounge instead of a fully functional restaurant.
From their incredible choice of trendy lounge music that is just right to the ears to their spread of delicious food and appetizers you will not be disappointed. Aside from the music and layout their lighting and romantic candle lit tables are enough to make any date impressed with your selection for the night. As for their meals and wine list, this is where Jakes truly stands out from the other restaurant in that area. With their great selection of wine they have incorporated a 1/2 off wine bottles day on Wednesday nights. While this might sound a little low-class to some this is perfect for a big group of people if you want to sit back and have some appetizers and drink the night away, or if you just want to share a bottle with a friend or in a romantic setting. I had a bottle of the Jeriko Pinot Noir while I was there and there are no words for the magic of a good bottle of wine after a long day at work. Along with that special they also do a happy hour from 4:30pm to 7:00pm that includes three dollar beers, four dollar drinks, and five dollar martinis.
The most recommended meal to try there is the NY Strip. I have had it there a couple of times it honestly is no joke. I understand that a steak is a steak and most people argue that they are the same everywhere you go but the key here is preparation. The taste is hard to put into words and I wouldn’t do it justice. Their Ahi Poke, a salad composed of tuna slices, nuts, and a flavorful garlic sauce is not too shabby and they have a Mediterranean platter loaded with a nice spread of Hummus, tabbouleh, feta cheese, and Falafel that makes the mouth tingle. These are just a couple of good starters for the night or you can make a whole affair of the wine and appetizers thing, it’s usually what I do when I go. If you are either chilling at their beautiful mahogany bar or sitting down to enjoy their mouth-watering eclectic cuisine you will be amazed and angry that you did not find this place earlier. Another added bonus to the restaurant is the location, depending on what mood you are in, there are a lot of different things to do. You have the Sunset Place theatre with an IMAX built in across the street inside of the Sunset Place that has a slew of great stores. You also have a small group of local bars and restaurants down the street, from places like Bougainvilleas to the Tavern you just can’t go wrong. Pass by enjoy and let me know what you think, I promise you it is good stuff!!

Good stuff.
