Thursday night in Miami is the kind of night that teeters delicately on the head of a pin. It's not the weekend just yet, but it's close enough to taste thus making people want to cut loose as if it were- thusly making Thursday night an open and random sort of night with a myriad of parties happening all around town.
If you happen to find yourself on Lincoln Road though be sure to venutre over to Michigan where Amy Alonso, Yesi Leon, and Alison Burgos- the ladies of Pandora Events -throw down my new favorite Thursday night party at Halo dubbed "Sweet". Launching earlier this summer, Sweet has definately filled a void in the girl party world. I had the pleasure of attending last Thursday and I will say that it far exceeded my expectations. DJ Jenni Foxx (who I have been a big fan of for sometime) was doing her thing while the girls (and a notable presence of boys) did theirs. My biggest surprise was how mixed the crowd was. In the past, on the very rare occasion that I did hit up girl parties, I usually ended up feeling more like some penis loving pariah than ready to have fun patron. NOT HERE- NOT AT ALL. The vibe was more welcoming than other Thursday night gay parties I have been to. The bartenders were attentive (not to mention adorable!) even during "Beat the Clock" (which I vaguely remember as something like free shots during a specified allotment of time, to which my notes from the evening, along with my short-term memory, also failed me). No Cover at the door with $3 Miller Lite & Peroni along with $7 Finlandia Martini's keep the very good looking crowd in very good spirits.
Pandora Events is no newcomer to Miami nightlife, celebrating their 10 year anniversary later this month with a huge blowout at the famed Moore Building in the Design District. I had the pleasure of speaking to Amy Alonso as well as Allison Burgos who was kind enough to sit down and fill me in on the amazing projects Pandora promote and support both locally and nationally (including a scholarship fund as well as collaborating with the Susan G. Kromen Foundation).
I never need a reason to go out, have drinks, and dance to great music- but when you couple that with the fact that you are supporting a local business who in turn have a civic minded model; it doesn't get much better than that for me. Sweet is a girl party for everyone and should not be missed. It goes down every Thursday at Halo located at 1651 Michigan Avenue.
