Circa 28 Saturdays and Lolo part ways

Everyone out last night was abuzz with the news: The staff from Circa 28 and Lolo, proprietor of Sweat Records and Saturday's promoter at the club, have decided to part ways. There's plenty of drama and lies going around, and I won't repeat any of it (sorry, sewing circle, go elsewhere for your gossip).

I spoke to Zeke, Circa's owner, via telephone and he expressed happiness with the tremendous success that Circa has attained in the past year but a strong interest and desire to switch things up and go in a new direction before it gets too stale. To this end, they'll be taking promotion in-house and trying out new things on a weekly basis. Expect more live acts, underground music, and stuff like that that pushes the boundaries of the format a bit.

Lolo writes:

We threw a pretty unanimously well-received party for 3 weeks shy of a year, brought in a ton of great bands and DJs and had a lot of fun. I do believe the decision they made was hasty and I'm definitely disappointed in them but it's their business and I wish them the best of luck - it isn't easy. There are new venues and opportunities coming up around the corner, Sweat Records is kicking ass in it's new expanded storefront, and I'm not going to stop throwing awesome parties anytime soon. Thanks to all who have been so supportive.

There's going to a more formal announcement in tomorrow's Sweat email.

So there ya have it. There doesn't seem to be much bad blood and I guess that means no knife fights either. I think that, because of the loyal customer base, Circa Saturdays can do fine without outside promotion. We'll see over the next few weeks.

Yeah I'm glad it is over! It sucks when you go out and listen to the same music every week after week.... and repeated songs in the same night like blue monday, tainted love, and this charming man by the smiths.... I mean they don't even play JUSTICE!!!!!.... and on the part of the venue they should invest in an AC unit and some SOUND!!!!!!
Circa just stinks for many different reasons...
1. Drinks are too expensive for a bar located in the hood.
2.A/C issues..Come on you morons, get it fixed. Does someone have to get a heat stroke before any action is taken?
3. Having to hang out in a parking lot due to the A/C issue doesn't make it any sexier. At least pimp it out with circus tents, elephant ears, and velour sofas.
4. People love breaking into cars in that area...plus the tow trucks are hyper sensitive.
5. The bald resident serrato DJ they have down stairs on Fridays stinks. His selection is reminiscent to a soccer moms IPOD and he really thinks he can scratch.
6. As for the music upstairs on Fridays, blame the crowd that goes there for wanting to hear all that crap...and who really cares if they don't play Justice...I hear Justice everytime I walk into an Old Navy.

I hope Lolo takes this as an opportunity to find a sexier spot and to fine tune the format into something much more interesting. Maybe more like the ill fated LAB room she was doing with Off The Radar...which in my opinion was better than the actual Off The Radar room. I wish a promoter in this town would take more chances rather than re-hashing the same ol' thing.
Lolo has the golden touch whereever she goes!
lolo has a golden viginia
but I love hearing billie jean 390248923 times
I always rate wherever I go on whether or not they play Justice.
is there any other criteria necessary to rate a place?

yeah the AC sucked. yes the sound was weak. but i'll miss the circa saturdays party. it was fun but i'm looking forward to the future. i smell a vagabond.
I second the fact that upstairs, the music was on perpetual repeat, but Jay Meletich is a good DJ in the downstairs and he has to work in a cramped DJ booth on a shitty soundsystem and bow to the constant control and complaining of the owners.

Here's the truth about Circa - - WORST. OWNERS. EVER. period. horrendous to work with. too bad for lolo that she had to realize their true level of douche-baggery the hard way. she was the only thing they had going there, save for the downstair Friday resident DJ, who manages to please the owners AND the crowd and never come off as boring.

otherwise, what used to be one of my constant regular hangouts where i dropped MUCH cash isn't even on my radar anymore, even though i live right down the street
I don't know what you guys are talking about...Circa28 is always fun & unlike the majority of nightspots in Miami, they're always changing things up and doing new things. I mean come on, it looks good in there. The staff treats everybody well. They carry a reasonably priced premium well which means they care about quality. They support the local arts community by showcasing new artists every month. They're one of the only live music venues in town. What else do you want? Oh and I think there's only one owner & she seems nice.
you must be new here.. complaining is what we're all about gigi
pop lock and drop it
