Chromeo Showmemo Homoeo

Chromeo - Fancy FootworkSo I finally got around to listening to the new Chromeo. We got a taste of it at Spiderpussy during WMC07. I heard the show was good. I wasn't there. But to be honest with you I kind of find the new LP a bit boring. For one thing I thought I'd heard it before. I believe it was called She's In Control, their first album!

P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) and Dave 1 (David Mackovitch) released "Fancy Footwork" earlier this month. And like every other tight -jean wearing, art school fag in North America I was looking forward to it release. She’s In Control, their debut LP produced by award-winning Montreal DJ/producer Tiga of Turbo Recordings, re-introduced EVERYONE to some good ass electro-funk. Why is part two soooo lackluster?

The title traxxx is fun though. I felt it; I like the Thriller like intro. It took me to Narnia and back until I realized there's no real vocal chorus to go with this rather poppy song. Who forgot to add the sugar to the Kool Aid mix? I hate it when that happens! I like the sexy female vocals though, but lets just face it, I suspect dance floors everywhere are going to be into the ill na na na remixes by D.I.M (Germany) and Guns'n'Bombs (LA) over the originals. I wouldn't sweat it though.  Traditionally, when an artist’s first LP is sooooo fuckin' hot and over-hyped, their sophomore effort usually resembles an 80-year-old billionaire's dick on half a bottle of Viagra.

The second cut "Tenderoni" automatically made me think of Boston boy band New Edition. When you check out the music player on Chromeo's MySpace it's a picture of Bobby and Whitney looking rather happy back in the day. Cute huh?

So what did I learn?  Sometimes a DJ REALLY CAN save your life. Guns'n'Bombs rolls into MIA next month at Revolver, June 29. I'll be there. And Chromeo's North American Tour starts in July. No MIA dates as of yet, but I'll still be there to check it out when announced. Maybe some LIVE Fancy Footwork will change my mind or this video.

I have no idea what the deal is with this video clip. But I found it interesting -- sort of how you find the taste of Play-Doh interesting when your 8. Work it out Chromeo!
