Bang Recap

bang-logo-red-back.pngBang is my new favorite Miami music festival. Ultra is so overrated. The day-long festival was filled with excitement and as well as let downs. First thing of all, let me say the layout needs work. Ultra this year used the same space in a much better fashion. Bang looked a little disorganized and messy. However, Kudos for putting the House Stage on the large flat asphalt area instead of the hillside on the north end of the park. When I saw Prodigy this year at Ultra I was so far away, and it didn’t help that as you went away from the stage, the ground sloped down. Now, I’ve decide with the consultation of B.A.C. and Lackner, to give you a quick recap of all things Bang:

Best Reason To Show Up Early Common Although hip-hop is not always my cup of tea, Common is a talented musician and it sucked that I was busy doing press interviews during his set because the crowd looked like they were having so much fun. Plus, he was energetic and engaging from the few songs that I was able to catch. I don't understand why Bang production put him on so early. Biggest Dissapointment The Thievery Corporation Their lounge music might be great for those times you are in South Beach at one of the many hotel/bar/lounge things, but it makes for horrible live music. I was bored out of my mind and I was actually looking forward to seeing them. Worst Performance Gnarls Barkley If your set starts at 6:45 and an hour later your still not on, you might as well scrap the performance. The stagehands had to endure the jeers and screams of "what the fuck?" from a very hostile crowd. Some people were so angry that they started yelling for Modest Mouse, the following act, to come out. When Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse finally took the stage, you realized the only song you really wanted to hear was "Crazy." Best Performance Daft Punk Read my review. They were the only act that no matter what type of music you liked, everyone wanted to see. Plus they put on one hell of a show and went through their solid catalog of hits and fan favorites. After Daft Punk, there was a mass exodus out of the park. Why? Because they already saw the best of the best. Most Underappreciated Los Amigos Invisibles Not only was the stage in some remote area that was hard to find, but instead of setting Bang apart by putting some Latin American rock acts on the main stages they relegated them to obscurity. Like Common, they came on early at 4:30, when the festival was still pretty bare. Their show was energetic, and despite not knowing a lot of their songs, I was hooked. The crowd dance and cheered as Los Amigos showed everyone that Miami definitely has Latin roots. Best DJ Tiesto I personally didn't catch his performance, but B.A.C. and Lackner said after Daft Punk, Tiesto was probably the next best performer there. It was smart of production to put Tiesto and Daft Punk one right after the other. Tiesto's set ended at 9, and while Daft Punk was suppose to start at that time as well. However, the show really didn't start until 9:15 giving patrons enough time to get to the House stage. Anyway, Tiesto was able to bring a wide variety of people together to party hard, and we love him for that.
