Looks like the squeaky wheel gets the grease for once. Bang Music Festival, newly expanded to two days for 2007, and scheduled to go down at Bicentennial Park on November 10th & 11th, has been mysteriously "postponed". After many lineup complaints and what I assume to be lackluster ticket sales compared to last year's rager, they are offering no explanation, as well as full refunds to the 17 people that actually bought tickets.
The lack of information on the bang website gives me images of a next-day walk of shame down the frat house hallway while some guy at the end takes a polaroid of your face as you slither off to your car, oozing regret and old spice...not like I would know.
Will they return with a Stronger lineup?
Will they turn it over to the city and have a Bay of Pigs Memorial Thug-Rave?
Will I ever stop posting links?!
I don't know, I'm not a doctor. But what I do know is, this will make for some sweet, sweet comment fights.
Let the rumors begin!

Now I will say this one time, and one time only. Since the powers of blogging have proven to work as this post goes to show. This is an open call to the ENTIRE Ultra Music Festival team. We all know your big timers, and you've got your shit set, but PLEASE pick up where BANG! unfortunately left off...the power is now in YOUR hands. Make Miami very happy on your 10th anniversary! I think others would agree that we could make due without half of your usual line-up!
I thought SP and Kanye would sell out that tiny amphitheater for sure. They must have sold SOMETHING.
Let's hope this means they're back with a vengeance. They know what they did wrong. We all know there's more money where that came from. Build the right festival and we will come.
The festival is not cancelled, just post-poned (although I would think all signs point to this year actually being cancelled). Supposedly, they are going to re-build the line-up, smart move. It seems that only 17 2 day tickets sold through Ticketmaster, hence why they magically "postponed" the event as those sales wouldn't even cover the costs Ticketmaster charged them to sell their tickets! After much disgust with the fact that they even wanted to feed more into Kanye's ego, it is believed they were trying to drop him to use that money and get themselves much more talented acts. Something went ary with the contracts and therefore the event was "post-poned".
Now I truly believe in the BANG! people, they haven't let me down...twice in a row. And I generally want to see them do good, and grow as another reason why Miami is usually a kick ass place! So come on BANG! people, work your magic...shell out some more bucks and make it happen. Everyone is just awaiting an actual FESTIVAL with some dope acts....provide us with that and you will get your over the 5k mark of people purchasing tickets. I promise you!
I'm surprised too; even though the indie and electro kids bellyached about this party, I thought it would be commercially successful. They just started selling them recently, too. Perhaps this is an issue of misallocation of marketing funds rather than talent. Or perhaps I'm full of shit. No, I'm definitely full of shit.
Sad, sad...but in other news...JESSICA WHO's ASS IS ALWAYS RIGHT...mmmm hmmm!
I caught him live twice (UM and Coachella) and couldn't believe how badly he lost his breath and how unlistenable the shit was. I do like his records and think they are among the best-produced hip hop albums, he can't rhyme himself out of a dictionary and his flow is near-embarrassing sometimes.
Point being, I wouldn't have gone to Bang for free this year. Either day.
Festivals need multiple stages and any festival worth its salt needs fucking electronic music. It's so, so, so easy to fill the void that Ultra lacks with its same-ass lineups every year.
Give us Underworld, LCD Soundsystem, Justice, Chemical Brothers, anybody we can dance our ass off and takes drugs to. You hear that Haddad?
GIVE US WHAT MIAMI WANTS!!!

This show has been POSTPONED until May 2008. We are still booked to play The Bang Music Festival. They just moved it to next year in ORLANDO!
HAHAHAH!!! Ticket sales must have been HORRIBLE! Not only did they postpone until the middle of NEXT YEAR, but they moved it out of MIAMI LOL!!
This is what we mean by having the same line-up year to year, and this specifically is in my case alone, and yes I have mentioned this to my “chums”. I know they have way more money than any of us put together could ever make in a lifetime. So it's disappointing when they have this HUGE flyer and 80% of it are acts they get EVERY year. And what's even more disappointing is when they're headliner JUST had a FULL concert like not even a year before their event! So we continue to rant and rave about the organization of these festivals because we would like for them to put their money on new, fresh, cutting edge, underground, currently touring, never before see in the tropics type of artists.
Ultra is known for bringing the same people over and over whom already do club nights here in Miami might I add. And really that's great because the kids get to see them, and for us elders we also get them all in one shot. I just would like Ultra to somewhat follow Bang’s enthusiasm (or at least their effort) in thinking out of the box a bit more, bring down the percentage of a recurring line-up, and bring some fresh talent we have yet to see and more importantly who we are DYING to see!
Oh and Britney Spears
JK! :)
