Bang Music Festival: 'Waa-Waaaah' Edition

Looks like the squeaky wheel gets the grease for once. Bang Music Festival, newly expanded to two days for 2007, and scheduled to go down at Bicentennial Park on November 10th & 11th, has been mysteriously "postponed". After many lineup complaints and what I assume to be lackluster ticket sales compared to last year's rager, they are offering no explanation, as well as full refunds to the 17 people that actually bought tickets.

The lack of information on the bang website gives me images of a next-day walk of shame down the frat house hallway while some guy at the end takes a polaroid of your face as you slither off  to your car, oozing regret and old spice...not like I would know.

Will they return with a Stronger lineup?
Will they turn it over to the city and have a Bay of Pigs Memorial Thug-Rave?
Will I ever stop posting links?!

I don't know, I'm not a doctor. But what I do know is, this will make for some sweet, sweet comment fights.

Let the rumors begin!

Poor Bang. After such a promising 2006 it amazes me how the wheels came flying off so quickly. I am of the belief the Haddad people read our readers complaints and letters in our comments sections and decided to cancel the production......psh, who am I kidding. Truth is who would want to pay $145 for such a shitty show.
I am the eggman
Well now...their goes the neighborhood! Sad sad sad, I said it three times. Let's all take a moment of silence for what could have been the alternative to another festival whom usually provides Miami with the SAME line-up EVERY year. We all had so many great memories with the BANG! fest, Not too long ago we were contributing $25 to a Hurricane Katrina relief fund which got us a ticket to see Casey Spooner's shadow against the atlantic waters. And just the other day, our mind was blown with an orgasmic and out of world experince a certain glorified French duo whipped our asses with.

Now I will say this one time, and one time only. Since the powers of blogging have proven to work as this post goes to show. This is an open call to the ENTIRE Ultra Music Festival team. We all know your big timers, and you've got your shit set, but PLEASE pick up where BANG! unfortunately left off...the power is now in YOUR hands. Make Miami very happy on your 10th anniversary! I think others would agree that we could make due without half of your usual line-up!
Wow. Can't say I saw this coming.

I thought SP and Kanye would sell out that tiny amphitheater for sure. They must have sold SOMETHING.

Let's hope this means they're back with a vengeance. They know what they did wrong. We all know there's more money where that came from. Build the right festival and we will come.
sorry carlos, i know how much you were looking forward to kanye showing up 2 hours late and running out of breath while he tries to rap. oh, and who wouldn't want to be completely deafened by billy corgan's nasaly whine? anyone else i can hate on? not much to say...spoon. bravery. pft.

Ok so..don't quote me on this but I went through my phone book and did some calling and got in touch with some insiders with the BANG! team. Here's what I was told....

The festival is not cancelled, just post-poned (although I would think all signs point to this year actually being cancelled). Supposedly, they are going to re-build the line-up, smart move. It seems that only 17 2 day tickets sold through Ticketmaster, hence why they magically "postponed" the event as those sales wouldn't even cover the costs Ticketmaster charged them to sell their tickets! After much disgust with the fact that they even wanted to feed more into Kanye's ego, it is believed they were trying to drop him to use that money and get themselves much more talented acts. Something went ary with the contracts and therefore the event was "post-poned".

Now I truly believe in the BANG! people, they haven't let me down...twice in a row. And I generally want to see them do good, and grow as another reason why Miami is usually a kick ass place! So come on BANG! people, work your magic...shell out some more bucks and make it happen. Everyone is just awaiting an actual FESTIVAL with some dope acts....provide us with that and you will get your over the 5k mark of people purchasing tickets. I promise you!
holy mackerel! they really only sold 17 tickets?! i pulled that out of my ass! but like most things i pull out of my ass, it has turned out to be true.

and stinky.

I'm surprised too; even though the indie and electro kids bellyached about this party, I thought it would be commercially successful. They just started selling them recently, too. Perhaps this is an issue of misallocation of marketing funds rather than talent. Or perhaps I'm full of shit. No, I'm definitely full of shit.

Oh my...LMAO. Jessica I didn't even notice you wrote the EXACT amount I was told. And yes, my source advised they did a total of 17 actual refunds, again do not quote me on this.

Sad, sad...but in other news...JESSICA WHO's ASS IS ALWAYS RIGHT...mmmm hmmm!
Hey Jessica, despite my bout of Kanye apologizing, I'm really not crushing that hard.

I caught him live twice (UM and Coachella) and couldn't believe how badly he lost his breath and how unlistenable the shit was. I do like his records and think they are among the best-produced hip hop albums, he can't rhyme himself out of a dictionary and his flow is near-embarrassing sometimes.

Point being, I wouldn't have gone to Bang for free this year. Either day.

Festivals need multiple stages and any festival worth its salt needs fucking electronic music. It's so, so, so easy to fill the void that Ultra lacks with its same-ass lineups every year.

Give us Underworld, LCD Soundsystem, Justice, Chemical Brothers, anybody we can dance our ass off and takes drugs to. You hear that Haddad?
I am hoping Bang will come up with something. Its not too late, they can still impress us :)

GIVE US WHAT MIAMI WANTS!!!
Out of curiosity I checked out one of the bands myspace pages [Automatic Loveletter] and this is what it said on their calender..

November, 11 2007 at Bang Festival w/Smashing Pumpkins (POSTPONED until May 2008) click for details
Not Available , Orlando, Florida

This show has been POSTPONED until May 2008. We are still booked to play The Bang Music Festival. They just moved it to next year in ORLANDO!

HAHAHAH!!! Ticket sales must have been HORRIBLE! Not only did they postpone until the middle of NEXT YEAR, but they moved it out of MIAMI LOL!!
All these "ULTRA always has the same line-up" comments are getting pretty lame. BANG never can and never will compare even remotely to what Ultra has, point blank. Yes Ultra's lineup may have A LOT of the same artists year after year, but true EDM fans don't mind because a huge portion of those artists rarely if EVER come to the US/Miami and WMC and Ultra are about the only times you get to see them. How ULTRA can ever be compared with BANG is beyond me. They must be doing something right to get 50,000 attendees year after year..
This is not surprising. I know someone that is one of the organizers of bang, who had mentioned about 3 months ago that they were actually trying to get it up to orlando before any of this happened. I guess this was the nail in the coffin that convinced them. But trust me, now that it's in Orlando, it will become something you might want to make the drive for...a few of us know how consistent and reliable our favorite O-town promoters are, and I'll be damned if they're not involved now.
toot toot. beep beep.
I don't think any of us would ever actually compare BANG! to Ultra. Shit, I think ALL of us wanted them to be two completely separate entities. I myself was happy that BANG! would tear away from the very strict EDM steelo that Ultra is very much known for, and be a bit more diverse with their line-up. Don't get me wrong I have attended each and every Ultra since they started; for god’s sake I went to high school with the damn organizers, we’re all great chums! I'm a big Ultra fan; I have my foam #1 finger for them and everything.

This is what we mean by having the same line-up year to year, and this specifically is in my case alone, and yes I have mentioned this to my “chums”. I know they have way more money than any of us put together could ever make in a lifetime. So it's disappointing when they have this HUGE flyer and 80% of it are acts they get EVERY year. And what's even more disappointing is when they're headliner JUST had a FULL concert like not even a year before their event! So we continue to rant and rave about the organization of these festivals because we would like for them to put their money on new, fresh, cutting edge, underground, currently touring, never before see in the tropics type of artists.

Ultra is known for bringing the same people over and over whom already do club nights here in Miami might I add. And really that's great because the kids get to see them, and for us elders we also get them all in one shot. I just would like Ultra to somewhat follow Bang’s enthusiasm (or at least their effort) in thinking out of the box a bit more, bring down the percentage of a recurring line-up, and bring some fresh talent we have yet to see and more importantly who we are DYING to see!
I guess in a city where all you can do for fun is kick hay bales and polish your super cool Disney toy collection, the idea of seeing both Kanye *and* Smashing Pumpkins is like a super radical concept. BRING IT, O-TOWN, BRING IT!

The reason Bang was so great the past two years was becaue of the diversity of music it offered. It had a major headliner for everyone, in every genre unlike Ultra. This is what made it different and appealing. Daft Punk, Modest Mouse, Damian Marley, Duran Duran, Gnarls Barkley...thats a tough lineup to top and this years didnt even come close. Maybe the reason for the cancellation is poor ticket sales due to a poor lineup that everyone obviously complained about so maybe Bang should consider putting a forum on their website where everyone can give an input to who they want to see. Kind of like a public poll. This way they can be sure to do thier best to give the people what they want....GOOD MUSIC! I know i would have loved to see Bjork, M.I.A, Infusion, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Timbaland, Deep Dish, Fatboy Slim, and what the heck, Daft Punk again! But thats just my opinion.

Oh and Britney Spears

JK! :)
just in case the BANG people are reading this, I vote for: M.I.A, Justice, The Roots, Massive Attack, 311, and Pearl Jam would be sweeeeet. not that they would even pay up for Pearl jam to play, but a girl can dream.
oh... and Mika!!!!! yessss
ur all hom os
