WMC 2010 Friday: Grass, Bar, Vagabond

There's a lot of shit going on tonight and all of it's pretty good, so I can't really pick just one or two winners. Let's start from the top:

Chicken n Beer at Bar, presented by Mad Decent. This one goes from 5pm until very late. DJ Skeet, Oh Snap, Walshy Fire (who?), Skerrit Bwoy (that crazy looking guy from the Major Lazer videos) and others. Should be good. Should be free. Should be good free BBQ chicken. What's not to like? More information.

A Decade of Spectral Sound at Grass. If you're tired of dubstep and wobbly electrohouse, you need to give some space to wobbly minimalish technoish leftfieldish houseish pleasantries by Matthew Dear, Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss. 10pm-5am. More information.

Erol Alkan and Classixx performing at Vagabond. Erol's performance last year was my favorite of that WMC. More information.

Annie Mac at White Room, also featuring Mehdi, Jack Beats, Brodinski, and Riva Starr, whose recent Essential Mix was fantastic. More information.

We gave away tickets for this but statistically you probably didn't win one. More information.

During the evening:

Fool's Gold at Grand Central. Grand Central is a nice new venue across the street from where the Miami Arena used to be. Talent: Duck Sauce (A-trak + Armand van Helden.. wut?), Just Blaze, DJ Sneak, Treasure Fingers, Kingdom, LA Riots, Greenmoney, Nick Catchdubs, and Nacho Lovers. Oh, and it's possibly free. More information.

WMC 2010: Lady Lovin'

The girls at Pandora Events aren't going to be left out of the WMC fun.  It's been a while since I hit up Sweet @ Mova (F.K.A. Halo), but if I know anything about these girls, it's that they know how to have a good time.  With an all female lineup I can only hope that they didn't sacrifice talent for kitsch.  Fear not people, this party is not chick strict.

"Girls on the Decks" goes down tonight, Thursday March 25 at Mova.  No cover and some tempting drink specials ($8.00 Belvedere) could pull in a good crowd.  Mova is located just off Lincoln Rd at 1625 Michigan Avenue, South Beach.

WMC 2010 Wednesday: Bar, Nikki Beach

Are you dead yet? Me neither.

During the day:

Drop The Lime, Classixx, Skeet Skeet at Bar (28 NE 14th St) from 3pm until late. More information. Pase Rock will also be there later: see here.

During the day.. and going late into the night:

Flying Circus at Nikki Beach (1 Ocean Drive), with the most ridiculous lineup in the history of lineups: Steve Lawler, Audiofly, Timo Maas, Tiefschwarz, Davide Squillace, Heidi, Matt Tolfrey.. I could go on and on but I type with one finger. More information.

WMC 2010 Tuesday: White Room, Set, Grand Central

Tonight, start at White Room for Jesse Rose and Radio Slave. These guys are raunchy as hell and I am pretty sure this will be a good time. More information.

WMC 2010: Fairy Dust Edition

So i have been racking my head trying to figure out WTF to do this WMC.  I've opted out of Ultra and I'm def. skipping the pool (read: human genome soup at $50 bucks a pop) parties.  I'm trying to not to let my jadedness get the best of me and telling myself: "come on bitch, pull it together!"  I just haven't been able to shake the whole "OVER IT" feeling.  When I think about all the time, effort (not to mention $$$) spent over something as fickle as partying I can't help but get the same feeling of disdain and hopelessness like when I eat carbs.

I was just about to dive head first into a bag of chips when I had an epiphany-> instead of going nusto-facto running around downtown, dodging the hipsterrati, why not figure out a way to carve out your own fun time. In that spirit I've decided to forsake (most) of the typical and kick it with an old friend of mine DJ Fr8-O.  He'll be showcasing his skillz at The Palace South Beach.  Fresh off their win against the big bully next door, the Palace is already well known for their Sunday Drag Brunch.  On the corner of 12th Street and Ocean Drive it makes for a ideal location for a great crowd and music.  Come watch the sunset, have some pre-game drinks, and kick up some sand. DJ-Fr8-0 will be taking the deck on Saturday March 27 from 6PM-9PM.  The Palace is located at 1200 Ocean Drive, South Beach.  Did I mention its free?  Yeah.

Now if you can't foresee yourself draggin' your ass out out before the sun goes down, and you still want to step-ball-change with the boys may I suggest tracking down Maximus 3000.  In a special WMC event DJ Maximus 3000 VS Josh Riptide will perform a tag team set at the "One Nation Under Groove" after party at Twist on Thursday March 25.  There is never a cover at Twist and be sure to say hi to Frank at the downstairs bar.

WMC 2010 Monday: White Room + Bar

You know that feeling grandma got in her arthritic rusty bones when she says a storm's-a-comin' and you're like "shut up and mend my shoes you hag" and then, whadya know, five minutes later thunder cracks and lightning arcs across the sky, angry and full of energy? WMC's a comin' and Grandma Lackner is gettin the aches.

Pretend that paragraph made sense.

Tonight I command you to go to White Room at 1306 N Miami Ave for the pre-opening WMC showcase presented by Subdrive and our friends at Cornbread Productions, featuring Alexander Technique, Cobra Krames, Terror Dactel and Mike Mago. More information here.

Afterward check out Bar around the corner at 28 NE 14th Street. They're unveiling their newly redone look by artists Todd James aka Reas. Disturbingly cheap drinks and a very pleasant atmosphere.

Congratulations to our contest winners!

As WMC lurches and stumbles toward us I want to take this opportunity to remind you: around 5pm-ish today I will be picking the two winners of the Miami Nights Party Passport contest. Both winners get two party passports: one for them, one for their primary concubine. Each party passport means a week of free parties, 13 in all, starting on Tuesday. So hurry up and register, or if you already have, have your friends sign up too - after you convince them that you should be their guest if they win.

Update: It's over! Congratulations to our winners Halim I. and Thalita A. Everyone else: you have failed at life but remember you can still appear to be a winner by buying tickets and going to the parties anyway! I won't tell anyone your sad bitter secret. Check out SAFE and Embrace to make that happen.

Hello March, How We've Missed You...

[Editor's note: Welcome JonJon, our new resident house music fan! Someone's gotta do it.. -lackner]

March is finally here and we all know what that means, "Miami Season" has officialy begun. Here is when all the fun really begins. Not that it really ever stops but, you all know what I mean. Between the beach being packed with a very diverse crowd (which lets say 75% consisting of drunk college white girls) from every corner of the US every weekend, to Nikki Beach becoming every ones routine subsituting Sunday school, the weather finally warming up, and lets not forget the very exciting Winter Music Conference blessing this city during the last week of the month. Everything really just begins to feel right about this time of the year. This is time of year when we actually start to take those 34 Event Invitations waiting on our Facebooks seriously. So lets get the sunblock ready, stock up on our bathing suits, and hit the gym hard to bulk up our birthday suits because we've all got some interesting day and nights ahead of us!

WMC Saturday Suggestions

I'm gonna make this short. I was not blessed with the ablity to rant like Lackner nor the ability to coerce under age girls so here are your Saturday night WMC suggestions:

  • Get Physical Miami @ Studio K (formerly Studio A) featuring: M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade, Matthew Dear, AudioFly, Italoboyz and more. In our my opinion the best ongoing party during WMC for the past few years. Don't believe me? See last years Get Physical Miami for yourself.
  • Fool's Gold @ The White Room featuring: A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs, DJ Mehdi, LA Riots and many more. It's FREE. Do yourself a favor and listen to us.
  • Sasha @ Shine in the Shelborne Hotel. I know generally we don't endorse trance but Sasha is a legend. Just do it if you are afraid of the homeless in Downtown Miami.

Have fun and be safe! And remember, just cause a panhandler is literate doesn't mean they aren't out to get ya....Ha just kidding, Miami is truly safer Sarajevo. Really.....

WMC Friday Suggestions

WMC rolls into Friday with more amazing acts. Are you dead yet? I hope not. I sort of am.

Spectral Sound @ Glass: Audion, Kate Simko, Seth Troxler, Lee Curtiss, Konrad Black. More info and tickets.

Erol Alkan @ Vagabond: Whoa. Amazingly talented and eccentric DJ/producer Erol Alkan with friends Dave P, JDH, and Riton, to say nothing of Late of the Pier. And Rye Rye for some reason. More information and tickets.

If you see me out, poke me with a stick to ensure that I am alive and not just a warm corpse. Thank you.

WMC Suggestions: March 25th - A Party Worth Blogging About

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!~ There's nothing like free in this recession laden world we now find ourselves in. The good people of Eatskeet.com and Hipster Runoff are throwing "A Party Worth Blogging About" and the lineup is incredible.

The event is today and kicks off at 11am to 6pm on the Ganesvoort South Rooftop Pool. WMC'ers can expect to run into Rony Alwin (ronysphotobooth), Bronques of lastnightsparty.com, and Mark at the Cobrasnake. For you hipsters this must be a dream come true. Imagine you can be one of the regretful many that find themselves half naked online after a day of binging. Take some time to throw your feces stained American Apparel underwear away now before reading the lineup. We wouldn't want you uncomfortable in any way. You can RSVP for this FREE event by going to EatSkeet.com/RSVP and listen to a sample mix of the music you will be drinking to that day from the MN player below (Tacklisting after the jump). The mix is courtesy of Eatskeet.com. Check out this lineup for the day:

  • Felix Cartal
  • Acid Girls
  • Ocelot
  • Le Castlevania
  • Skeet Skeet
  • Nick Catchdubs
  • Tittsworth
  • Designer Drugs
  • LA Riots
  • Franki Chan

For entire list of DJs click the thumbnail up top. Also, I'm not certain I like such colorful flyers. Also, how long are each DJs sets gonna be? Not sure I like events with so many Djs squished into one event...Also, I'm not sure I really know much about anything.

WMC Suggestions: March 25th - Mansion <3 Electro

Our readers know we lean towards Electro on this blog so it's fitting Mansion has arguably the best electro lineup tonight for WMC. The lineup is pretty sick with Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris (dj set), The Bloody Beetroots, Sneaky Sound System LIVE, Joachim Garraud, LA Riots and Don Rimini spinning the dirtiest electro this side of the Miami River. Tickets for this event are $30 and can be purchased here. Arrive early as the line for Mansion for these events is usually 200 deep. If I am not mistaken it is also the album launch party for The Bloody Beetroots, so expect to hear a lot of new ass shaking, spleen shattering grittiness.

Your WMC Reviews and Stories

Sadly this year I will not be able to make it out to WMC until Thursday night. As much as I would like to be in a drunken stupor for an entire week this year I must acquiesce to the corporate forces and go to sleep early like a good caged monkey. That does not mean I don't want to hear your stories and reviews. The best way to get your voice out is to create your own Miami Nights community blog, but if you're too lazy or mentally impaired retarded the go ahead and leave a comment.

Either way your experiences are always more colorful than those of the "critics" so we look forward to reading your dribble.

WMC Suggestions: RokBar

RokBar is a personal favorite for both Lackner and myself. With many drunken and sweaty nights courtesy of RokBar we gladly bring you their WMC events. For all you visitors from outside South Florida RokBar is South Beach's premier Rock like club. Filled with a slew of crowds, from your typical SoBe douche to your typical Downtown Miami douche, you get the best of all Miami worlds. RokBar also underwent some remodeling a few months ago adding some much needed decor.

Anyhow take it from us at Miami Nights, RokBar is a great place to party. Below are the Rokbar Events. Thursday and Saturday Night look SICK! A-Trak, Craze and Klever on Thursday then Cut Copy, the Presets and Tommie Sunshine on Saturday is just gonna make for some ridiculous partying. All events are $20 at the door before Midnight. After midnight ticket prices will be go up depending on capacity. Also on Saturday and Sunday Rokbar will be open till 7am.
