Little Louie Vega tonight @ The Vagabond
Late breaking info folks. You must RSVP for tonight's event at White Room featuring free Scotch from LVMH's new brand Ardbeg. See the original post for more details.
I remember the first time I visited Jimbo's almost 5 years ago, I was with a girlfriend from the past and her mother and the mother wouldn't stop talking about how great this place was. Honestly I was a little worried driving up to the place; garbage piles on the sides of the road, shacks here and there and some pretty rough looking bikers. I swore I had just stepped off the plane and into Port Au Prince. After mine and my girls initial shock we saw beneath the dumpy veneer and saw the inner beauty of Jimbos's. Kinda like seeing the inner beauty of the bums that wander DwnTwn.
Anyhow I digress, Jimbo celebrates his 81st birthday this Sunday (4/13) and if you haven't been to a Jimbo b-day bash then make sure to mark your calendar cause they are legendary. People of all shapes and sizes, colors and backgrounds swarm the beautiful dump on Virginia Key from noon to sundown drinking beer, playing bocce ball, listening to music and just having a great time. Last year there was a huge Presidente Beer truck dispensing free hops goodness and as always the smoked fish in a bag is on sale. I highly recommend it to those who haven't been, and those who frequent Jimbo's often...See you there! Jimbo's is located at the end of Virginia Key.

UPDATE: Reader Keyrat reminds us to mention to the guard house upon entering Virginia Key that you are going to Jimbo's to avoid paying anything.
Leave it to the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami to take advantage of influx of international DJs and promoters into the city next week. MOCA has tapped the Misshapes to appear at a little shindig on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The festivities celebrate the opening exhibition of Pivot Point Part 1, a defining of the museum's collection. The event also marks the premiere of the highly prized gift to the collection No Ghost Just a Shell, a collaborative multi-media project originated by Pierre Huyghe and Phillipe Parreno is comprised of 17 works by international artists, all based on a Japanese Manga character named Annlee. The work was jointly donated to the MOCA and the Tate, London.
If you plan to attend, you will be asked for $10 donation if you are a non-member, but cocktails will be provided by 10 Cane so that's nothing to complain about. The Misshapes will be on hand to provide the music.
Editor's Note: This a three-part series of our choices for the best WMC parties. Duran, B.A.C. and Lackner will give you their top 5 picks on what you absolutely cannot miss during the week of WMC. Don't forget you can post your WMC even on Miami Nights by clicking here.
Honestly 5 events isn't nearly enough to capture the calamity that is WMC. However the only way you can not OD stay sane during this week is to plan and not kill yourself running around Miami trying to see everything. It's pretty much impossible. So below I present you with my 5 can't miss events. As you know we do things differently on Miami Nights so I hope we are able to present you with some diversity in music and style. Enjoy!
DJ Funk, Drop the Lime, Le Castle Vania, Jason Tyler, Local Hero, Acid Girls, Ocelot and more @ Indra Lounge Tuesday
Indra Lounge you say? That's right, I was surprised to see it posted in our events section but I like the line-up alot. I'm a little weary of Indra since I have never been but to get a chance to catch Ocelot and Acid Girls would make for a great night. This is a WMC friendly event also so if you are a badge holder you get in free before midnight. Otherwise buy a ticket or pay $25 bucks at the door.
Nic Fanciulli, Audiofly, Tiefschwarz, Paul Harris, MURK, Cedric Gervais, Chris Lake, TV Rock, Pier Bucci, Armand Pena, Shlomi Aber,Steven Lee, Steve MacGranite & Phunk, Noir, Anja Schneider & more Wednesday @ Nikki Beach
I thought it would be cool to have a day event. I like the aspect of being out on the beach after a night of heavy drinking with a mojito in hand and listening to the likes of Fanciulli, Aduiofly and some local boys in Armand and Cedric. This party will go from 11am-10pm so you have plenty of time to get back to your hotel and wash up before the night starts. Or if your like Lackner, roll around in your Miniature Pinscher's shit then hit the town. Whatever your in to.
Get Physical with M.A.N.D.Y., Heidi, Junior Boys, Noze, Italoboyz + Guests @ Studio A
Sorry but I still can't get lasts years party out of my head. M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade KILLED it and this year I expect no less from the German duo and Junior Boys. Has anyone heard the Junior Boys Body Language compilation cd? No? I suggest you buy it! Anyhow the German crew from Get Physical knows how to throw down and you definitely do not want to miss this party. Last year the place was packed wall to wall so get there early in case Studio A reaches capacity. Click here to check out our pics from Get Physical 2007.
Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, Eric Prydz and David Guetta @ Space Thursday
You just can't keep a great club like Space down. You got trance in the main room with Corsten and Van Doorn, and arguably the most talented member of the Swedish Mafia Eric Prydz on the terrace and David Guetta spinning after hours. Need I say more? Nah.
James Zabiela & Nic Fancuilli @ Studio A Friday
This is here simply because Zabiella was beyond amazing last he was here. The production with all the additional screens and cameras was amazing and we should expect the same level of commitment for WMC. Click here to check out pics from James Zabiela last time he was here and I think you will be convinced it's worth going to.

Just a friendly reminder that Justice will be spinning a LIVE show in Orlando March 6th at the popular Thursday night party Saturday/Thursday @ Club Firestone. The live show will have full Marshall stacks on the stage including that famed white cross and hopefully some improvisational music making. I have only seen the French duo DJ so naturally I am a bit excited to catch the live show. DJ Mehdi and Fancy will also be tearing up the decks that night. And hell, it's always good to party in another city and test the waters elsewhere. Tickets will run you $25 and the party is 18+. You can purchase tickets here
UPDATE: I just got the word that less than 300 tickets remain for the show. Hop to it people, buy them or get stuck out in the cold for Justice's only LIVE performance in Florida.
As it would seem, there is a growing amount of distaste for Valentine's Day or really any prepackaged American hallmark holiday. At least for me personally, I am constantly reminded of our calendar status by whatever seasonal crap they are selling in the third row at Walgreens. Every year I try to remain just a tad closer to oblivion of USA pop culture and its soul sucking-ness. For real, you don't get this crap most elsewhere on earth. I think its for the better.
My generation (at least the smarter ones) have become starved of a pre-established rich cultural environment, we are driven to find philosophical diversity and spiritual enlightenment everywhere we can (read: Internets), because we sure as all fock don't get it from that gift card that perfectly expresses they way I feel about a girl or how much I care about your birthday. Jesus, how will she know I want her to get better soon? We -- or at least me an my contemporaries -- have been left no choice but to identify microscopic cultural niches that actually benefit the growth of the individual. If I didn't have my artwalks, potlucks, drum-n-bass scene, emerging bike culture and design software, I might just have to explode myself. The only alternative is to join the mindless drones following whatever Viacom Top 100 songs/products/fashions you just can't live without. Keep your chocolate hearts, just show me some humanity please.
But hey, maybe I'm just sweating cynical bullets because I am sans-date this evening. In which case, I offer those in like the following:

The Malibu Winter Beach Bash is coming to Miami for one night only, Saturday, February 16th. Malibu Rum has been traveling the country, throwing the ultimate beach parties. Starting in Milwaukee (Do they know what a beach is?) and making its way to Tahoe, Malibu Winter Beach Bash is on a quest to give party goers a real Caribbean experience complete with a tiki bar, cabanas, and a shoe check-in. Complementary signature cocktails will be poured, not to mention a virtual beach volleyball game that will be open to anyone up for a match. This is pretty reminiscent of the Stoli Hotel, and you know that was good shit.
The event, taking place at the Paris Theater, will be hosted by international model/actress Carmen Electra. Spinning music will be Chicago native Shaka23, an up-and-coming female DJ, steadily gaining credibility as a force to be recognized in the boy's club of the industry. In a heavily outnumbered field (10 males to every female), Shaka23 has proven to be relentlessly dedicated; versed in many styles of music with an ear for cutting edge sounds. The event is RSVP only so how your gonna get in, beats me. Use them connections or just show up. The act of simply going there usually will get you in (no promises thought!). See you all there.
UPDATE: You can RSVP by sending an email to gurrutia@legacymp.com. You are brave posting your email on this site....hehehe
Paris Theater
The art walk is tonight. If you haven't been yet: a) you're probably quasi-retarded; and b) you should be put out of your misery. The walk starts at 7 p.m. and official end at 10 p.m., but I've seen events last until midnight. I leave you with a video done by Plum Miami Beach about the gallery walk:
