Today in Miami..

Cubans Canadians Saturday

If you have the slightest bit of awareness within the Electronica scene in South Florida, You've known about this for months. Notorious Nastie drove up to Winnipeg, slapped Aaron Funk in the face with sun block, locked him up in the trunk of his car feeding him only pastelitos and black n milds (dramatization) until tomorrow. In other words, Venetian Snares is playing PS14 on Saturday. Next up on that line up is our local sample mangler,  Mr. Otto Von Schirach. Safe to say, there will be laptops and thumpiness. If you have never heard Otto or VSnares before, DON'T GO TO PS14!!! You will experience acute ringing in the brain due to fluctuating oscillator rates and loop patterns exceeding 240 bpm. Breakcore is not for the light hearted. You might be better off just going to Poplife -- seriously.

Speaking of Poplife & the White Room, Jose El Rey is booked for the same Saturday night. El Rey is everything you love to hate about Miami rolled up into one sweaty 5' 7" pan con bistec of a man. A little bit freestyle, 2live, electro & lo-fi. 100% hot sauce!  I can't quite pin him to Little Havana or Hialeah, or even determine that he is actually Cuban. But for the sake of diction I'll go on the record stating he is one hot Cuban motherfucker from the hoods of 305. I'd post a song, or a YouTube vid, but in all honesty they are complete trash. His vocal recordings suck. He commands a presence on stage he hasn't yet captured on a track.

Goodness from the Maxim (Espanol) interview:

Maxim: What's with that perfumador of atmosphere that you have hung of the neck?

Jose: It is practical. it is a very powerful scent. and I am not going to you to lie, I sweat much when I touch. when I have intimate relations with the senoritas.

I put deodorant, perfumes and all that, but I have noticed that in my car, the perfumador of atmosphere of royal aroma pine, which I have, clouds all the scents. furthermore, when I return to house, I do not want to smell like the bar, I do not want to smell like the motel. I want to smell like the king, Royal Pine, for that reason I chose that aroma.

I will try and grab time slots and have them up; to be able to take full advantage of both acts would be golden. Flyers in extended.

Parking ticket generator (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Hot damn the site is down already. Not only that but the Herald is reporting it was Miami's very own Alfred Spellman from Rakontur who was behind the hoax. We here at MN applaud Alfred's gutsy move to "stick it to the man". It won't be long before someone else picks up on this with false domains and mirror sites. You can't stop the internet Miami Beach. Maybe you should fix your parking situation and get out of bed with the towing company's.

The Miami Beach Parking Ticket Generator makes me very upset. Why? Because it's brilliant. Why exactly? Because it's brilliant and I wanted to do this two months ago but bitched out like a scared little girl. Grr! When I have an idea, I gotta jump on it.

Raping your rights at Internet speed: Miami-Dade PD gets drones (UPDATED)

It looks like the Miami-Dade PD is about to get yet another tool in their arsenal, this one suitable for capricious law enforcement and ultraviolence at a safe distance. The FAA has approved the Miami PD to test out police drones.

I'm pretty excited about this news to be honest. I'm sure at first they'll actually use them to fight real crimes, but before long we'll be enforcing traffic laws with million dollar flying robots. And let's face it, Miami is such a safe, uncorrupt place, I'm sure the powers that be can be entrusted with a heavily armed almost-invisible flying battleship. I only fear someone will figure out how to hack their command and control protocol and then do some ballsy, artistic skywriting.

The future is truly here.

Update: Mr. Jsand, in comments, brings us his chilling vision of a somewhat more depressing Miami:

They've already begun their technobattle. Clicking on the video of the drones on that page caused my display to drop to 640x480 with 4-bit color. It was like I was back in 1992. Anyway, I can see the future of the streets of Miami. Burned out buildings, malnourished rebels with bad teeth driving rust-colored camouflaged dune buggies speeding around Wynwood and Overtown.

Suddenly someone shouts "DRONE! DRONE!" Gunfire is exchanged. Those who are able run for cover quickly. Some cocky lad, aged only 16, makes his way up the gutted innards of the SunTrust building, jumping and climbing parkour-style. The upper floors are filled with the charred remains of shady accountants and mortgage brokers who violated federal lending laws. The drones are merciless in their enforcement of the law.

Our plucky hero makes it to the roof, out of breath but full of resolve. Drones are hovering around hundreds of feet in the air sniping away at the guerrilla rabble below. The boy pulls a device from his tattered rucksack and feverishly pushes some buttons. FLASH! The air sizzles as an electromagnetic pulse discharges and radiates out, engulfing the drones and frying their circuits. The smell of ozone is overpowering as the now-defunct drones plummet to the city streets below ending their tenure in the Miami PD with an unceremonious crash landing.

The rebels raise their fists in victory and defiance. They'll live to fight another day.

Tech Happy & Down with Cash!

Half the fun of djing and electronic music is exploring hardware itself. A lot of top notch electronic manufactures have been in the business of customizing equipment for top notch artist usually for promotional needs. But when I read in BPM this month (online) I nearly flipped my lid at this month’s Gear section. KORG has introduced a completely new and revolutionary concept to the dj mixer. They’ve taken into considerations the live performances element of djing and incorporated modern solutions for laptop musicians, studio remixers and live PA groupings with instruments with their new ZERO LIVE CONTROL MIXERS. Gawd remember when kill switches were the coolest things to the mixer! Fuck the Iphone, I want this new mixer for Christmas!Click here for a full Review from BPM Magazine

On teee zzz musik….

The first time I heard Sir Don Cash was on the 'This Is The Sound Of Young NY' series comp that came out last year. Hailing from Toronto Sir Cash is the coolest. He’s down with James Murphy, Headman and is signed to Switzerland’s Relish Recordings.

Don Cash II is the new release. "Hey There" and "Disco Wreck" are the hot dance floor singles. These traxxxs are showing up on a ton of mix tapes from here to Sydney. But I noticed he's getting very little Blog action and his internet presences is super low which I don’t get cause the music is smart, fun and ultra cool. Hopefully that will change cause the Cash is set to start touring soon.

The visual clip I'm including is the "Hey There" video. It gets a bit monotonous about a minute into it. BUT not if you’re high dude!!! All the freaky camera dissolves start to get all crazy and shit. To the point where you need a seat belt on your couch to prevent you from sliding to the floor and passing out from seizure like symptoms.
