Chanel Cruise Collection @ The Raleigh

Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel premiered the 2008-09 Cruise Collection yesterday at the Raleigh. I really wanted to go because I need to find myself a rich-ass MILF or GILF -- whatever, I'm not picky as long as the bitch is rich. A lot of people I know got to attend the show, why? I don't know; their poor asses couldn't afford the Kleenex the models eat in order to keep the hunger pains at bay. I'd like to think my invite was lost in the mail -- yep, that's it! Obviously, Chanel invited us! It must have been some issue with the U.S. Postal Service.

Anyway the fucking runway supposedly cost like a bajillion dollars and they had the U.S. Olympic synchronized swimming team do some shit that I probably wouldn't have cared for any way. But if I may interject here, aren't we in an economic recession? Who the fuck is thinking of dropping $10,000 on a Chanel outfit and high-tailing it to St. Barts when the country's economic future looks about as bright as a hungry kid in Myanmar?

In case you want to live vicariously the life you'll probably never be able to afford, here is a short video of the show courtesy of Miami Herald. Also below is a nifty YouTube video in case you can't get enough.

Karelle Levy (KRELwear) wins Style Wars

Hey, remember when the House of Diehl came to the White Room as part of the Style Wars Tour? Well, if you didn't know local designer Karelle Levy, owner of the local label KRELwear, won the Miami round, earning her a spot in the final event in New York to determine the Style Wars champion. Well, guess what? Levy cleaned house and showed the contestants from New York, San Fransisco, Los Angeles and Chicago that Miami has got its style in check.

The New York Times even got on the ball and covered this shit. Score 1 for Miami! I always knew New York and Los Angeles were cities full of fucking losers. And in case you forgot what all the fuss was about, below is a video courtesy of Nefarious Girl.

GenArts Shop Miami seeking Designers & Boutiques

Another year, another GenArt Shop Miami. I personally didn't make it last year but our resident Lady Wrangler made it out and raved about Shop Miami 2007, though she did have her qualms with the liquor selection (Where is the Bombay sponsorship??)....That aside this years event is being held June 26th at the Moore Building in the Design District.

Best of all they are looking for emerging designers and boutiques to take part and in this years event. All you need to do is submit a Professional Bio and/or Press Kit and low resolution jpg images showing at least 6 different designs (must be actual clothes or accessories, no sketches accepted) to miami@genart.org. Last day to submit the requirements is May 21st so get your shit together you starving designers. Click the jump to get all the details. Good luck!

Shampology Salon and Supply

So I usually get my hair cut at Contesta Rock Hair on the Beach, but shit if I don't hate having to drive over the causeway, find parking and walk (usually hungover) several blocks to Espanola Way. So when an e-mailed popped up in my inbox from salon owner/stylist Danny Dillon asking us to check out his salon, Shampology, in the Design District I thought "Why not?" I needed a haircut, badly. I had neglected to cut my hair for a while because of all the moving around I had recently done and the new job I started. Plus, it was the Design District, just 5 minutes from where I live and that meant I didn't have to drive to the Beach.

The salon is tucked away in one of the many indoor retail spaces far away from street view that if you didn't know it was located there you'd completely miss it. The salon itself is modern looking yet warm enough that it's inviting, but I couldn't help but notice how empty it was. The salon basically consists of Dillon and his assistant, which I don't mind; I hate loud and busy salons. However, I had to ask Dillon if he is able to get any business this way, but he insist that he works mostly on referral service and faithful clientel.

There is no doubt that Dillon is a talented stylist, he worked for several years at Ego Trip Salon in Miami Beach, often considered one of the best, if not the best salon, in Miami. Normally stylist cut my hair in 10 to 15 minutes, quickly rushing me out of the chair for the next client. I hate feeling of being rushed and so it was great to see that Dillon did not rush the appointment, in fact he took the time to talk to me about exactly what I wanted, cut my hair meticulously and even gave me tips on styling and hair maintenance.

So if you are looking for a great one-on-one consultation and cut, definitely check out Shampology and call 305-576-1530 for an appointment. The salon is located at 180 NE 39th St., Design District, with free valet parking across the street at Brosia -- take that South Beach!

Miami Fashion Week starts tomorrow

Miami Fashion Week begins with the designer + guest reception/official kick off party at Gary Nader Fine Art in Wynwood. By invite only, I definitely can't get in, but wish I could (secret tips anybody??) All the fashion exhibits will be held this year at Soho Studios on 21st Street & 1st Avenue in Wynwood (The space where PULSE was held Across from Charcoal Studios) starting tomorrow (Wednesday, April 9) with the press conference and lingerie showcase.

Surrounding the event are slews of chic afterparties/ridiculous soirée's and pop up events which I hope (srsly) our blogger crew gets their hands on. Hopefully I get at least a taste of how the fashion scene throws it down. I find fashion often to overtake the execution of idealizing beauty much more so than much of the fine art today, that is supposedly meant to do so. Damn artists.

Rag Trade for sale

Everyone's favorite Design District boutique Rag Trade is for sale. Why? Owner Stephanie Spiegel is moving to Israel to live on an organic farm. Um, yeah. Anywho, its selling for $20,000, but Spiegel would also consider any investors. I know a lot of people who would die if this place ends up closing down, so some please save Rag Trade from extinction.

I leave you with an interview Plum Miami Beach did with Spiegel about two weeks ago. She talks about the store and its vintage goods.

Review: SNIP Salon

With the economy in the toilet, all my beauty treatments have been suspended until further notice. That means plucking my own eyebrows, painting my own nails and buying Queen Helene’s $3.99 Mint Julep Facial Mask at CVS. Oh, the horror! There’s nothing like settling for beer budget beauty solutions when you’re a gal with champagne taste.

Lucky for us there’s SNIP Salon. Located on 456 Arthur Godfrey Road in a building that used to house the CIA headquarters, SNIP can wax and peel perfection without requiring fingerprints or 49 forms of ID. Offering the works: haircuts, manicures, pedicures, facials, massage and hair removal of all kinds.

It offers plenty of high-end clothing and accessories for those who don't want be caught in the awkward situation of wearing the same thing as someone else (damn you Urban Outfitters for putting me in that position!).
