Vagabond nightly expansion

So it seems The Vagabond is continuing to tighten its grip on the downtown Miami party scene, this time with a ton of new parties and bookings. Adding to their ever-successful Fridays and growing Saturdays, they are adding Tuesday and Thursday parties, with a Wednesday in the works will be called Jive with more details to come.

Tuesday night are being billed as a jazz, soul, spoken word night called Stone Groove. I am guessing this will be much the same as Mondays @ Churchill's but sans the elderly jazz DJs. Nothing against the old guys (they probably have the best classical and modern jazz collections in Miami, plus easy to pick pocket) but I can't imagine them behind the decks at Vagabond. Regardless will the Monday night Churchill's crowd flock to Vagabond and will Vagabond be able to mimic the success of Churchill's on Monday night?

Thursday is going to be a Hip-Hop night called (((SHAKE))). Que Pasa M.I.A (Dominic, AHOL and Jose el Rey) and Sweat Records will be producing the night in conjunction with the Vagabond. Basically it will be old school hip hop and Miami classics in the main room with revolving themes in the Patio Garden, ranging from Afro-Cuban to Reggae to R&B and New Jack Swing. The official launch date for this party is October 16th and it will be carrying on every Thursday from then forward.

Things look to be going well for The Vagabond.

As the nightclub world turns, collapsing ceilings edition

As many of you may know, last night a catastrophic event occurred at Vagabond during peak hour. Some sort of roofing panel fell from the ceiling and clobbered a girl in the head, Road Runner "Acme Anvil"-style. I understand she had to take a trip to the hospital (but then again, thats how many good party nights turn out) but is ok now.

This led a veritable flood of people to evacuate to White Room which ended up having to turn on the lights and kick people out as 5am came and went.

We have received second hand but reliable information that Vagabond is closed until Thursday for safety reasons. We are checking with our sources at Vagabond to confirm.

Review: 2 Live Crew @ The Vagabond

This review is four days late, I know. Bugger off. My weekend are filled with over indulgence. I over indulge in women, booze, cigarettes and carbon monoxide while sitting in my car in the garage (don't ask). Anyhow I had some pretty high expectations for this event. I don't know about you but when I was in middle school I was the only white kid in my class. The start was pretty rough cause I hated being called a cracker. But I finally got to know my black brethren and became good friends and ardent supporters of their music. In particular Miami Bass.

2 Live Crew was a staple on the bus ride home every day. As the driver went through Allapattah I started getting a true appreciation for booty as I stared at all the lovely black women walking the streets. In fact, I think it was at that point I became a womanizer. But enough of my jungle fever riddled childhood. The 2 Live show was a packed house. I never had any doubts the venue was gonna fill up but damn there were more people there than I had anticipated. So much more that it was a sweaty sauna of bad colognes, even worse perfumes and the omnipresent smell of deliciously slutty chick dying to get on stage. Yummy.

I won't go into detail about the music since we all know 2 Lives hits so I'm gonna concentrate on the energy of that room. People were going nutz, in particular the women on the stage who were shaking it like hoes. You see, thats the beauty of Miami Bass. It makes even the whitest most conservative girl dance like a hoe. To hell with seminary and sunday school, a hoe jus' wanna pop dat shit. Women were clamoring to get on the stage. Were they hoping to get some 2 Live action? Or were they just trying to show they could make it clap? I don't really give a shit to be honest. There were some pretty hot chicks up there getting nasty and sweaty. The rest of the room was bouncing and singing the lyrics to every single song and doing their best impression of booty dancing. Props goes to the Money Shot team of Jake and Xavier and also to Mike Feinberg of Subversive Inc for making this show happen.

Reminder: Scion AV Release Party @ Money Shot

Hello all, just a friendly reminder and continuance of your weekly binge that tonight at The Vagabond Money Shot will be hosting the Scion AV release party featuring RadioCl*t, Drop the Lime and Franki Chan. I'm not very well versed with RadioCl*t so you prolly know more than I do, and as for Franki Chan...Well I don't really care much for his spinning. But Drop the Lime is another thing entirely. Also known as Curses!, DTL has a very unique style of spinning which includes dropping breakbeats, dubstep, electro and a host more genres. Our once a month poster Billermo put up an extended mix by DTL so check it out if you don't believe. Anyhow you can RSVP for the event here for free entry.

Birfdays galore at The Vagabond

Can everyone stop e-mailing saying, "Duran, please mention my unimportant shit going on?" You guys drive me up the wall crazy! Ah, nah! I love you guys. I can't get enough of the love/hate shit we have going on. I slap you around a bit, but you always come back to me. You better!

Anywho, people I know -- I suppose you could call them friends -- are celebrating the day they escaped their mother's womb as the Vagabond. Some call this a "birthday," I call it a violent eviction out of a warm, amniotic fluid-filled haven. Thursday, my bosom buddy, er, I guess its better just to say buddy 'cause that shit never sounds right, Obi is celebrating his big 2-4 at Money Shot. Napkins will be thrown, bottle will be emptied, fun times will be had. By the way, don't mind those two whores in the background of the flier.

Friday, Gemini's unite as there will be a party at the Vag in your honor. Well, not really. More like in Lolo of Sweat Records and Chipi of Cooljunkie, two of the hottest females I know (of course, after you Tristin). How old are they turning? Gentlemen, you never ask a lady her age. However, I expect the same amount of heavy drinking and possible liver damage. Er, I should call Jackson and tell them to have my usual room ready.

(P.S.: Somebody send me the flier for the Friday event, I can't find it anywhere, but I know I've seen it).

Local Funk Friday

Nada Surf is the kind of band you'd listen to after breaking up with a significant other, finding out your credit score is in the gutter, or after just receiving a parking ticket. I highly suggest anyone who is in a similar situation to see them at Studio A on June 2 to know that no, you are not alone. Tickets are $15 through Ticketmaster and it's another one of those early all ages shows, but don't mind the children, they have feelings just like you.

The music video for their song "Always Love" is after the jump.

Also, I'm really excited about Worthy playing at The Vagabond tonight. The track I've included below is a song that was stuck in the back of my head for three months after hearing it in a set. Needless to say, when I found it I was quite the gleeful boy. The killer is the lead synth line that kicks in around the middle of the song. As a bonus after I've included the recently released video for "Work the Walls" which shows a typical pre-game session for you ladies after you put on your American Apparel fluorescent leggings and get ready for da club.

Worthy - Les Tard

Drop the Lime, Frankie Chan & Radioclit @ Money Shot

Oh fuck yea! Leave it to Jake Jefferson and Xavier Burt to pull off this amazing line-up! I mean Frankie Chan and Radioclit are amazing in their own right, but right after turning heads (or is it opening ears?) during WMC, Brooklyn DJ Drop the Lime is coming back! This is motherfuckin' AWESOME!

The shit hits the fan June 26 at Money Shot at The Vagabond! And this is going be a global hoppin' night: New York, Los Angeles and London are well represented. I better start taking my vitamins now because it's going to be a late night on the 26. Get ready Miami, this is going to be a must attend event. Trusts!

I leave you with Drop the Lime's remix for Blaqstarr's "Shake It To The Ground" featuring Rye Rye, M.I.A.'s potentially best musical find.

Community blog highlight: Hey Chica did you go to Usnavy's quince last night?

Straight from the Community Blogs, our new favorite sceneboi (why the hell aren't the rest of you doing this?) Ferosh Vernacular recounts his night with friends at the "Quinceanera" party held at Vagabond last night. Poofy shoulders, booty music and pizza delivery and all:

Last night this we headed over to The Vag(abond) for the "Quinceanera" party. While I normally make it a point not to frequent teen nights (18 and over), the music draw had me at hello. So the 3 of us (Gui, Mo, and I) met w/ Thomas (yes- T now I know that "call me when you're close means prior to exiting the highway) and ventured back in time to the time of puffy white dresses, tiaras, and "pop that coochie".

Click here to read the entire, hilarious post

From all accounts, that was a pretty weird party. Very.. authentic. If you don't believe us, check out Chipi's photos on Cooljunkie.

And if you feel the need to express your Miami Nightlife woes, pros, rants, overtly insulting opinion of clubbers you too can blog by signing up using the account control in the top right corner.

Thursday: Money Shot @ The Vagabond

Everyone come tomorrow to the Money Shot party The Vagabond where we'll be saying goodbye to friend-of-the-site Ms. Paige, also known as Open Bar Paige, because, well, she can wipe out an entire bar's supply of liquor during open bar, who will be leaving this week to NYC. You probably recognize her since she is a usually featured in our galleries. Anyway, in celebration of her departure from MIA, The Vagabond is doing open bar from 10 to 11 p.m. So come and get drunk in honor of the blond bombshell.

Wednesday: La Quinceañera @ The Vagabond

Okay, I'm going to come out and admit it: I once, at the age of 13, danced in a Quinces. It gets worse: I was the main guy dancing with the quinceanera. It was horrible, I did it against my own wishes, but my mother forced me saying when I was older I'd look back at it and remember what a great experience it was. I'm looking back at it now; it fucking sucked.

Well Que Pasa MIA and The Vagabond are looking to bring back the nightmare of a Quinces party tomorrow with La Quinceanera. Yes, a Quinces party with promises of suprises, lechon and girls named Marileidys. Jose El Rey, DS363, Induce, Alex Caso, Madame Turk, Jon Vincent and Otto Von Santo (which I'm guessing is actually Schirach) will all be on hand. They also promise a secret, super famous DJ.

Oh and no, I shall not provide you with any pictures of me at the Quinces. It's better off forgotten.

Back Door Bamby returns Saturday

Hell ya! Carmel Ophir's infamous Monday-night party Back Door Bamby returns this week for one night only on Saturday at where else but The Vagabond. If you've never heard or gone to Back Door Bamby, listen to me and listen to me carefully: YOU MUST GO! This party is legendary because shit gets crazy. I never had the opportunity to go to it back in the day and have been begging Carmel to bring the party back so I can experience what all the fuss is about. Well Saturday I'll finally get my chance.

There will be plenty of DJs for your listening pleasure including DJ Shannon and hot-slut-of-the-site Jessica Who? in the main room, while DJs Gregg Foremann and  Ryan Evans along with Carmel himself will be spinning the in Bar Room. You can also expect appearances by Circ X, The Sex Kittens, Adora, Jose "Negro" Ramirez and Lovely Lola.

Tonight: Flosstradamus @ Money Shot

Call it the worst kept secret, but the Chicago DJ duo Flosstradamus will be at Money Shot tonight. These guys are amazing and always blow the roof off any place they play. Last time I saw them was at the Revolver anniversary party at the Boutique Room in Pawn Shop Lounge and they had everyone dancing their pants off. I'm guessing the duo is in town thanks to the Chromeo show tonight at the Fifth; they've been touring together since last year.

So if you have any plans tonight, scratch them and hit up The Vagabond. Tonight also marks the return of DJ Contra to the Money Shot lineup and everyone knows Contra is a crowd-pleaser, so you've got two great reasons to go.

Update: Apparently this is the official Chromeo afterparty, not the one at Love/Hate.

Tomorrow: Danny Daze @ Money Shot

What can I say about Danny Daze that hasn't been said before? The kid is A-MAZING. Usually when he is in town he DJs at places like Glass or Cameo, which I rather be mauled by a pitbull than have to deal with the bullshit at the door at those places. Daze always thrives better anyway when he is playing at a real party, so take his appearance at Money Shot tomorrow as your opportunity to catch him in all his glory. And face it, Downtown audiences are more open to listening to the new than South Beach crowds, so that should give Daze plenty of leeway to tear Vagabond a new one.
