The economy strikes: Langerado canceled

Langerado, an upcoming festival that we have discussed in depth appears to be canceled. This is a tremendous disappointment. My brother from another mother, and father, has the scoop, summarized thusly:

Today, the 2009 Langerado Music Festival is cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales. The 7th annual event was slated to happen March 6-8 at their new home in downtown Miami's Bicentennial Park.

I pray this doesn't mean bad things for WMC.

UPDATE: Langerado 2009 lineup (Abridged)

I noticed a considerable upsurge in hits yesterday as people were apparently desperate to see the Langerado 2009 lineup. The Langerado website and all other social sites claimed it would be released Monday, December 8th, but then the word came round they needed an additional day to tie lose ends (insert pissed concert goers comment here). Well as promised here is the abridged 2009 Langerado lineup.

Thievery Corporation, Death Cab For Cutie, Snoop Dogg, Broken Social Scene, Girl Talk, Cold War Kids, The Faint, Gym Class Heroes, Tricky, Chromeo, Mute Math, Black Kids, Cafe Tacuba, The Pogues, The Virgins, Zac Brown Band, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, Slightly Stoopid and Dashboard Confessional join Flogging Molly.....

I'd love to hear readers initial thoughts. There is still no"official" Update on the Langerado website is finally in, fully redesigned too. Did the Langerado organizers leave any up and coming acts out? Who did they leave out, are you disappointed, might I recommend the 395 underpass for all you dirty camping hippies (<3)? Tickets will be on sale December 12, here, but I should think the organizing committee needs to get the full lineup out ASAP if they want a good pre-sale push.

UPDATE: I gotta admit the peeps at Langerado seem to know what they are doing. That's a damn decent line up and it's only an initial one.

UPDATE: Langerado 2009: Biccentenial Park

Well would you look at that. Miami's largest live concert festival has made the move to the big city. Last years event was pretty big considering the headlining acts were a tremendous improvement from the 2007 edition. Acts like R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Matisyahu, Ani DiFranco, 311, Thievery Coporation, Gov't Mule and Ben Folds proved to be the catalyst that vaulted Langerado into the national spotlight as a festival to rival be mentioned in the same paragraph as Coachella, Lollapalooza and some other one I can't remember in Tennessee or something.

I like the big move to Downtown Miami. Considering March is already chalk full of goodness with WMC this will simply add to the sleepless nights us residents love during this magical month. Much like Ramadan, though I drink excessively, eat many vitamins, abhor the sunlight unless on a terrace somewhere and scavenge the downtown streets for unsuspecting ladies. No lineup has been announced yet and I can't imagine where the organizers are gonna stick all the DFH's and their tents but I imagine it can't be any less as good as last year.

UPDATE: Reader Roger L. dropped some names that might be part of the line up. This is completely and utterly unconfirmed but still intriguing enough to post. Notice some electronic oriented groups in there. Kind of like a Bang festival, but the Langerado people seem to know more about festivals than the former.

Lineup: Kings of Leon, Matt Costa, Jack Johnson, ALO, The KILLERS, The Roots, Dave Matthews (Band), Spoon, Ratatat, Vampire Weekend, Beirut, Death Cab, The Kooks, Raconteurs, Justice, Jose Gonzalez, Hot Chip, Manu Chao, Rodrigo and Gabriela, Whitest Boy Alive.

Review: Langerado 2008

This post contributed by photographer Santiago Felipe of Camera Obscura Photography

It's been a few days since Langerado, and looking back I must say that regardless of a couple of mishaps, Langerado 2008 was successful.

Thursday evening seemed like a nightmare. Horrible traffic that left the concert goers stuck in their car waiting for over 3 hours. The festival grounds seemed like a giant mud pie and I stood there, having random people come up to me, asking, if I was interested in buying shrooms.

Caustic Encounters: The most stereotypical post on earth

Check out this gem of hippie sloppiness just spotted on Craigslist Missed Connections:

Me: 5'9", pink hair, camo pants, green skull hoodie, camo hat, pink and black kitty blanket that turns into a backpack... from Camp Fuck Your Birthday Cake

You: about 6'0", brown/blond hair with a black beanie and a big green and white top hat. did you have on camo pants too? i think so? (bars are not really my thing)

We met Sunday night at the American Spirit tent. We got lots of free cigarettes and then walked to Phil Lesh & Friends together. We smoked a fattie and danced some. Then we went on the Ferris wheel together, threw a bunch of confetti off from the top, and had a romantic kiss.
Is it love, or just a vague hallucination brought on by bad drugs and three days of dysentary? We may never know, but luckily for us the weekend is just getting started, so a repeat is possible.

Langerado 2008

This post contributed by our photog supreme Santiago Felipe of Camera Obscura Photography

Langerado returns for the 6th year with an even stronger line-up. As I'm sure you all know, huge acts such as Beastie Boys, R.E.M. & Phi Lesh will be gracing us this year. Along with a variety of acts of up & coming and rare artists that wouldn't normally make they're way to South Florida. Not to mention that Langerado has a new home, Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation.

I've got my own little list of artist that I'm looking forward to seeing!!! (Chk Chk Chk), which we should be expecting a ridiculous awesome show from. Also, The odd Dan Deacon, Blitzen Trapper and Of Montreal who've exploded with success selling out large venues on their last tour. Let's not forget Miami locals Awesome New Republic, who will perform on the opening night of Langerado. Other neat acts I'm gitty about: Balkan Beat Box (Youtube these guys, k?), The National, Built to Spill and the recent buzz from New York, Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend have been causing a slight up roar lately, being named "The Year's Best New Band" by SPIN Magazine. Kind of curious to check them out now, no? In addition Ghostland Observatory, Ben Folds and Minus The Bear, just to name a few more. The festival does having returning acts from last year, Mr. Lesh, Matisyahu and a couple of other jam banders, Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood, Perpetual Groove, The Disco Biscuits and get ready to trip out again with STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9) psychedelic performance.

I must also add that schedule this year seems more thought out, being able to catch more artist and time slots not overlapping each other. Make sure to swing by Langerado's website where you can view and customize your own schedule for the festival. Also don't forget to check out some of Langerado's cool Activities. Greenerado, where non-profit organizations will spread the word on eco-friendly practices, as well as small jam sessions. And Matisyahu Shabbos and live artwork by LEBO (Langerado's Logo, Art work etc.)

Well hope many of you are looking forward to the festival as much as I am. And don't forget to check back for my overall experience on the festival this year.

Piece of advise from personal experience last year, bring enough cash for pricey food and please bring sunscreen! You will thank me.

Langerado 2008 fast approaching

What do R.E.M., Beastie Boys, Matisyahu, Ani DiFranco, 311, Thievery Coporation, Gov't Mule and Ben Folds have in common? Well other than the fact that it sounds like a college student's iPod playlist, all these and more will be at Langerado 2008 March 6-9. The alternative music festival makes the big move from Sunrise to Big Cypress Indian Reservation, where hopefully the dirty-hippie patrons will be able to 'shroom out in peace.

Others performing include Of Montreal, G. Love & Special Sauce, !!!, John Ritter, The Walkmen, Les Claypool, The Wailer, Ozomatli, The Spam Allstars, The Postmarks, Awesome New Republic and many many more. General admission tickets for all four days, including camping pass, are currently selling for $184.50, while single day tickets are $75, no camping pass included. You can also bring your whole hippie gang with you by paying an extra $100 for a RV pass.

Check out our review of last year's festival in case you want to know what you are getting yourself into.

Langerado '08 information (UPDATE)

www.langerado.com

Well god damn Langerado, this is one hell of a line up. Last year our old music writer Brendan had good things to say but comparing last years line up to this years is like comparing apples to oranges. The festival will be moving from Markham Park to the Big Cypress Indian Reservation in the Everglades. Where BANG Music Festival failed to live up to expectations and eventually "re-scheduled", Langerado did a damn fine job. Here's a taste of the line up:

  • Beastie Boys
  • R.E.M.
  • 311
  • Matisyahu
  • The Roots

And the list goes on. Click here for the full lineup. Tickets go on sale November 16th. Langerado 2008 takes place March 6-9. Ticket pricing as follows:

  • A limited number of tickets will be priced at $169.50
  • When these sell out a limited amount will be priced at $184.50
  • When this allotment sells out, tickets will be priced at $199.50

Ticket includes access to all four days of the Langerado Music Festival and on-site camping for the duration of the event.
