We don't generally talk about the performing arts on Miami Nights, nor do we really care for culturally significant anything unless by culture you mean drunk and shameless Europeans invading Miami during WMC. On occasion however we remember exactly how old we are and realize that perhaps our culture-less lives have been a waste.
In order to assuage our fear that we are walking nightlife zombies doomed to roam the downtrodden streets of Downtown Miami forever we provide you with something culturally related. In this case a way to win cheap tickets to Wicked, some sort of play about witches and flying monkeys. Details below.
WICKED ANNOUNCES LOTTERY FOR $25 SEATS
A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held daily for WICKED, which will be performing from March 3 – 21, 2010 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Each day, 2½ hours prior to show time patrons who present themselves at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts Ziff Ballet Opera House box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum and then thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person.
I'm gonna make this short. I was not blessed with the ablity to rant like Lackner nor the ability to coerce under age girls so here are your Saturday night WMC suggestions:
Get Physical Miami @ Studio K (formerly Studio A) featuring: M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade, Matthew Dear, AudioFly, Italoboyz and more. In our my opinion the best ongoing party during WMC for the past few years. Don't believe me? See last years Get Physical Miami for yourself.
Fool's Gold @ The White Room featuring: A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs, DJ Mehdi, LA Riots and many more. It's FREE. Do yourself a favor and listen to us.
Sasha @ Shine in the Shelborne Hotel. I know generally we don't endorse trance but Sasha is a legend. Just do it if you are afraid of the homeless in Downtown Miami.
Have fun and be safe! And remember, just cause a panhandler is literate doesn't mean they aren't out to get ya....Ha just kidding, Miami is truly safer Sarajevo. Really.....
We're happy to announce our second WMC stimulus package has been approved by the higher ups. We are going to give away more free tickets to some pretty banging events for all your poor, out of luck American Apparel like kids. We all know the tough times we are in, and that is why Lackner and I have lobbied heavily for these free tickets. You now have the option of signing up to win free tickets for the following WMC event:
Thursday March 26th: Miami Nights 3 Year Anniversary featuring Diplo, Kid Sister, Chromeo etc. at SoHo Studios.
Friday March 27th: Spectral Sound featuring Audion, Seth Troxler, Lee Curtis etc. at Grass.
Saturday March 28th: Get Physical Miami featuring M.A.N.D.Y. vs. Booka Shade, Matthew Dear, ItaloBoyz etc at Studio K (formerly Studio A).
Click here to enter the contests.Once at the contest page you can select which party's you want to enter to win free WMC tickets. Good Luck!
In my opinion this is clearly the best WMC closing party. With an incredible lineup set this is the place to be for your final drunken cracked out binge. Lackner and I have visited the the past few Sunday Schools and they never disappoint. There is nothing like seeing a mass of zombies still able to function completely. This years sunday school is taking place at Ice Palace as our beloved Pawn Shop is no longer in existence.I wonder if this years event will be outdoors like the past. Anyhow I attached some tracks for Onur Ozer who will be spinning an exclusive set. This guy is spreading like herpes in Europe with his very unique style of minimal. If anything it's worth going for just this dude.
Sunday School tickets will be valid for the full 24 hours and include a re-entry wristband. Get the party started right: Come by early to pick up your wristband and have a Degenerate drink on the house during the early OPEN BAR (11pm-12am). The Ice Palace is located close to the nightclub district, so you can make the rounds. Or, like a true Degenerate, stay for the duration as class will be in session all night and day, with a line-up that is sure to school you.
I just heard about this in the morning and got confirmation from the Herald site that there was indeed an drive by shooting early Monday morning. The reports mention an argument that took place outside the club at 4am Monday morning with one of the arguers leaving. A few moments later a car drove by and opened fire on the crowd outside. If you got any deetz call crime stoppers. Save Downtown!~
A group of men who had been inside the club began arguing outside the building about 4 a.m., said Kenia Alfonso, a Miami police spokeswoman. The men left.
Minutes later, a car drove by and someone in the car opened fire on the crowd. A club bouncer was among the injured. It is not known if he was the intended target. Police do not have a description of the vehicle or the shooter.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
Typical broski interview here:
Another witness described what occurred inside the venue. "The dude had bumped the dude, about a drink and then the dude, he said, 'Oh, you don't know me.' He had all type of guns outside," said the witness.
Tonight at the Charcoal Studios the Miami New Times is bringing back another edition of their popular event Artopia. The event is a fusion of music, local Djs, designers and artists along with every art "lovers" first stop upon entering the gallery, the free drinks and hors d' oeuvres table. This year the Miami Film Festival presents Miami artists Lebo + Future Banana, DJs Carmel Ophir (The vagabond) + Ryan Evans, fashion show by Art of Shade and of course film by the Miami International Film Festival. It seems online ticketing has ended but you can purchase your entry at the door for $20. A donation will be made to benefit the United Way. Charcoal Studios is located at 2135 NW 1st Ave. I recommend you go, even if your not sophisticated enough for art there are plenty of good looking, fun people in attendance which always makes for a great time.
Tonight, on the first of 3 Friday The 13ths that 2009 has for us, Draculas Daughter of Mausoleum and Notorious Nastie of every other local show in Miami Present:
What exactly is a grave rave? I'm not totally sure, I know that the last ridiculous Night of The Living Dead movies featured a rave and a grave, so that may be a clue into tonights festivities on 14 st.
Expect a mashup of all genres from dark to twisted, all things glitch, tech, industrial, and maybe even some booty.
For sure this party stems from the branch of previous series of Zombieparties, you know, the whole halloween any time of the year, dress up in blood, rot your flesh, get thirsty for brain juice anything goes style mayhem.
For anyone who might have missed the bus to Studio A WMC 08 bass overdose with Sinden Drop The Lime and random Europeans or maybe the surprise spot at the Laundry Bar with a 1990's DNB/jungle set by Drop The Lime, you bet not pass up ((Shakes)) fresh double banger with Drop The Lime and DMC Chamion 3 yrs in a row, our local boy DJ Craze, coming at with for some serious perspectives on the proper way to shove a bass down your spine, not to miss X 1000!

on the Beach to the east the new Thursday night at the florida room, UNDER COVER. Hosted by Lolo of Sweat + Nick Scapa of Honor Roll Music. Figures as much when you put together the brains behind Miami's beloved purple & turquoise music palace with a Promising new, seemingly unstoppable Label/Full blown Music production studio, Honor Roll Music, you get a refreshingly UNIQUE take on class & contemporary 305 chillin. ANR is the house band to play covers all across the spectrum "From Madonna to MGMT and beyond..." along with guest dj's lined up for the coming weeks. Hell,
I don't Need to say more, just take a look at the venue:
"Designed by Lenny Kravitz's firm, the Delano's new subterranean speakeasy is the antithesis of its trendy parent hotel. The dimly lit den of chandeliers mixes old-school Florida decor with the aesthetic of a swanky cruise-ship lounge. Though it only has a capacity of 200, it attracts a diverse crowd: everyone from young hipsters and chic sophisticates to Golden Girls clones on a fancy night out. Rue McClanahan's feisty, randy Blanche would feel right at home atop the Lucite piano, channelling Michelle Pfeiffer in The Fabulous Baker Boys."
The Florida Room, in the Delano's Basement @ 1685 Collins Ave. at 17th St. Miami Beach.
Then for Friday January 30,
if your interested in an short circuited alternative to 14st, come celebrate Peasants With Feathers Birthday Party at Black Sheep (formerly Laundry Bar). Mr. Armando Sanfeathers is well known throughout city for his tireless efforts of laptop uprising as well as being a long time staple of the Otto Von Schirach live stage extravaganza. He's been organizing troops and dropping scatter bombs of electronica emphasized live events in the city for much to long to keep track of, while keeping the gabba kickdrum strong throughout.Come wish him a happy assed loving birthday with all of the tech-geeks and freaks coming out of the city as of late.
You can find yourself trashed at Black Sheep @ 721 n Lincoln Ln on the freekin beesh (1/2 block north of the Starbucks on Meridian & Lincoln)
Straight from the Feather's face:
Anyway, along with him are going to be playing some very well known dj's such as Wreck aka Salim Rafiq, Juan Basshead,George Young, and
Mr.Feathers' favorite dj Medley and more suprises! don't miss this its going to be the zoo of the future.
You can't say no to such a cute armpit, could you?
So you've made it this far, why haven't you left yet? Weekend is NOW.
The positive energies of the universe are crackling and radiant youthful sexual lightning is arcing off of all metal surfaces, like Tesla, as we leap into 2009. The heady smell of cocky boyish confidence fills the room. We are pleasured and punished by the reward and guilt of our many vices. I'm not as depressed as I once was: maybe things aren't as bad as we thought. Everyone is on, working, hustling and not even looking back at that rotten stinking shithole of a year. Let's have fun.

Phase II has been announced and it looks like a good one. Aside from the yearly regular Paul Van Dyk I like that Moby will be spinning and Prodigy headlining. We got to see Moby spin at Studio A a few years ago and let me tell you he tore the shit down. Nothing like his produced MTV music. Moby spun a long, hard, deep set including a variety of all EDM genres. Truly an amazing show. I believe the Ultra peeps are finally understanding that they need to make sure they have a diverse product as opposed to the usual repackaged crap they have had for years on end. Good for you Ultra.
SECOND NIGHT HEADLINER THE PRODIGY AND AUSTRALIA'S PENDULUM
ALONG WITH APPEARANCES BY DJ TITANS PAUL VAN DYK AND ARMIN VAN BUUREN, PLUS AN EXCLUSIVE SET FROM MOBY
Is there anyone on the lineup still missing that you would like to see? Let us know in the comments. I would love to see some Onur Ozer, Oxia, Marc Houle and Ricardo Villalobos to name a few. For the time being though I am pretty happy with the current lineup. You can still purchase tickets for $129 (additional fees not included obviously) for both days. Get em while they are still moderately priced. Click the thumbnail for a full sized image of the lineup.
It come as no surprise but the Tier 2 tickets for Langerado are nearly sold out. Once the Tier 2 tickets are sold out the price for a 3-day pass will go up to $150. Get on it people! Click here to purchase tix.
Just a reminder, $135 Langerado weekend passes are nearly SOLD OUT - Get your 3-day pass before the price rises to $150. Remember, there are NO additional service charges and FREE Shipping* on all orders placed before January 31st. Single Day tickets are still available for all 3 days of the 2009 Langerado Music Festival for $75 with NO additional service charges and FREE shipping* through January 31st. All ticket purchasers will also have the option to receive a FREE one-year subscription to SPIN magazine during the checkout process.
I noticed a considerable upsurge in hits yesterday as people were apparently desperate to see the Langerado 2009 lineup. The Langerado website and all other social sites claimed it would be released Monday, December 8th, but then the word came round they needed an additional day to tie lose ends (insert pissed concert goers comment here). Well as promised here is the abridged 2009 Langerado lineup.
Thievery Corporation, Death Cab For Cutie, Snoop Dogg, Broken Social Scene, Girl Talk, Cold War Kids, The Faint, Gym Class Heroes, Tricky, Chromeo, Mute Math, Black Kids, Cafe Tacuba, The Pogues, The Virgins, Zac Brown Band, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, Slightly Stoopid and Dashboard Confessional join Flogging Molly.....
I'd love to hear readers initial thoughts. There is still no"official" Update on the Langerado website is finally in, fully redesigned too. Did the Langerado organizers leave any up and coming acts out? Who did they leave out, are you disappointed, might I recommend the 395 underpass for all you dirty camping hippies (<3)? Tickets will be on sale December 12, here, but I should think the organizing committee needs to get the full lineup out ASAP if they want a good pre-sale push.
UPDATE: I gotta admit the peeps at Langerado seem to know what they are doing. That's a damn decent line up and it's only an initial one.
Here at MN we're no strangers to Lazaro Casanova and Jay You. Both friends of the site and excellent local DJ's you can find them all over Miami, and in Lazaro's case all over the US. Spinning tech and minimal goodness the boys decided to start the label Petfood. Expect a balance of productions that won't be to dark and techy but also nothing too cheesy and housey. Petfood wants to bring music with drums and Cuban and African influence to the scene hoping to attract a wide variety of DJ support being that its going to have enough dark elements for the techno DJs and enough groove, energy and fun for the house DJs.
The first release for the label is from Lazaro Casanova titled Los Tambores which brings the aforementioned feel the label is trying to achieve, that groove people like. You can purchase the track Los Tambores on Petfood's Beatport page. For more info or to or submit your music to Petfood you can email the label at eatpetfood@gmail.com. If you would like to submit your music you can email the boys at eatpetfood@gmail.com.
Not much word on a lineup yet but ULTRA tickets are already on sale for $99 for both days, VIP $350. That's a pretty sweet early bird deal. Only a limited amount of tickets are available at this price so if your a junkie for repeat acts then jump on this (Am I being to pessimistic to early about the lineup?). Not included however is EMT services in the likely case you will OD by the close of day 2. If you have any insider deetz on the schedule feel free to comment. Better yet, who do you think Ultra should book? Keep in mind I'm looking for acts that haven't graced the Ultra stages every effing year like clockwork.
Let's be clear, M.A.N.D.Y. never dissapoints so to expect a negative review on the music beyond this point is moot. Overall the event was a complete success. With a full venue, both upstairs and down, you could tell the people were truly enjoying the music and atmosphere. In addition to the great music the production was top notch. With dynacord stacks providing the epileptic like shakes I thoroughly enjoy, a blinding industrial strobe light Lackner likes to abuse and projectors everywhere you could easily tell things were done proper. In addition to the love of wattage the SAFE team also set up swivel cameras upstairs and streamed the video to the bar downstairs so the claustrophobics could still see the duo spin in addition to the crowd jamming. If oyu missed out there are plenty of SAFE events still upcoming. Might I suggest you do not miss any more.
Editors Note: A day late maybe, but not a penny short.
By now many of you know the record label Fool's Gold, along with SCION A/V, will be throwing a free party at The White Room to showcase some of their artists. The lineup for this coming Tuesday, October 21st, includes: Jokers of the Scene, Nacho Lovers, Treasure Fingers and Nick Catchdubs. The free event runs from 10pm-4am, 18+ welcome and bring dancing shoes. Some of you may recall the free Fool's Gold event at White Room during WMC. In as few words as possible, that shit was off the heezy. This is basically a do-over for all those who missed out in March, so make sure your calendar is free Oct 21st and pencil this shit in. You must RSVP to get in (as with all Scion events). Hope to see you there, Lackner and I will be in full drunken and badgering glory as we curdle the evening with our MN antics.
So it seems The Vagabond is continuing to tighten its grip on the downtown Miami party scene, this time with a ton of new parties and bookings. Adding to their ever-successful Fridays and growing Saturdays, they are adding Tuesday and Thursday parties, with a Wednesday in the works will be called Jive with more details to come.
Tuesday night are being billed as a jazz, soul, spoken word night called Stone Groove. I am guessing this will be much the same as Mondays @ Churchill's but sans the elderly jazz DJs. Nothing against the old guys (they probably have the best classical and modern jazz collections in Miami, plus easy to pick pocket) but I can't imagine them behind the decks at Vagabond. Regardless will the Monday night Churchill's crowd flock to Vagabond and will Vagabond be able to mimic the success of Churchill's on Monday night?
Thursday is going to be a Hip-Hop night called (((SHAKE))). Que Pasa M.I.A (Dominic, AHOL and Jose el Rey) and Sweat Records will be producing the night in conjunction with the Vagabond. Basically it will be old school hip hop and Miami classics in the main room with revolving themes in the Patio Garden, ranging from Afro-Cuban to Reggae to R&B and New Jack Swing. The official launch date for this party is October 16th and it will be carrying on every Thursday from then forward.
UPDATE: I'm hearing disturbing rumors of the possibility WMC will be moving to Vegas in 2010 and Ultra going to Orlando...Mind you these are rumors being churned over at Talknightlife, which doesn't mean anything. But isn't there always a sliver of truth to rumors?
From the newly redesigned -- thank fucking god, last years was an orgy or too many colors and flashy things -- Ultra website comes the announcement they will be selling tickets this month. Congrats on finally moving to a blog-centric style site.
ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL MIAMI
EARLY BIRD TICKETS ON SALE THIS MONTH
Ultra Music Festival 2009 Event Dates and Early Bird, Reduced Priced Tickets will be released this month!!! Check back soon as we begin releasing essential festival information over the next few weeks.
Here's hoping we get a lineup the likes of Sonar this year. Diversity is key Ultra peeps!
Note: Seems the club was not open at the time so this is not directly related to the club and the people that attend, which is the case for the other incidents. That's just a pretty seedy area it seems. More details to come.
Let's keep this short and simple. Metropolis is perhaps one of the least thought out clubs in Downtown. Now now, I'm not taking away the luster from the damaged goods that is Karu & Y, but Metropolis is a close second. Once again over the weekend more people were stabbed at that cursed venue. There has to be buried Indian remains under there, what else can explain all this violence? We've documented the knife fighting schools history here (my loose interpretation of documentation). But for those too lazy to read here's what we put together a while back:
The fact of the matter though is that within a two week span two people were wounded in a shooting, one person stabbed to death, another killed in a hit-and-run and a few months later two more people were shot near Metropolis resulting in one death. Oh right, did I forget to mention someone was attacked with a machete? That seems like a pretty good fucking reason to never go to that hole ever again.
Chalk up another attack for the hapless corner in Downtown known as MetropolisArea 51 whatever the fuck it's called these days.
Ahhhhhh, Karu & Y. What can be said about one of Miami's greatest flaming turds in history? The venue itself is a beaut, but your management was cursed with down syndrome. New management you say? $10 million more in investments you say? Can this work you ask? God knows, but this weekend the legend goat will be going another round with the fickle denizens of this great city. I even recently received my glossy "VIP" card in the mail for the opening weekend. It states I get free entry +1 with no hassle at the door...No hassle you say? I'll make sure to put this to the test. Anyhow to christen this new beginning Karu has booked a tremendous actactressporn star Playboy Bunny Kendra Wilkinson from the show The Girls Next Door. SMASHING!
Attention, by clicking here you will be forwarded to the most epileptic video invitation this side of Aldous Huxley's account of mescaline use in "The Doors of Perception". Good luck, and remember to convulse in a padded area. Karu & Y is located at 71 NW 14th Street Miami, FL 33136.
Welcome to Miami Nights. We've been antagonizing and overanalyzing
the Miami and South Beach club scene since WMC 2006. Once we sober up we
also cover the arts, dining, real estate and shopping.
