Dancin' Shoes

Circa 28 has officially been christened with it’s first official party, Circa Saturdays. Thrown by Ms. Lauren Reskin of Sweat Records, the party was conceived as an alternative to the other Saturday weeklies with a definite emphasis on pop. The place was packed, sweaty, and in constant motion.

I usually go out and see many party goers sitting around, which brought to mind the the lyric above – but I was proved wrong. People danced, they danced all night. The downstairs was kicked off by DJ Saul(himself),who got it started proper, followed by a decent party-rocking DJ (he’s apparently the in-house DJ). The room was supposed to have a chill vibe, but I could have been mistaken. The second floor was not much different as far as the party vibe was concerned. The Selectors upstairs stuck to the hits, spanning many genres (some call it “open format", but I have only found a few people in the city which can actually do justice to that style of playing records – more on this next week). The crowd was your typical downtown hipsteratti, lots of locals too.

I think my favorite part about the bar is that their well drinks are your standard calls at other bars: Vodka is Stoli, Gin is Tanqueray, Whiskey is Mr. Jack Daniels. These will set you back 7 bones. There were a couple of drink specials. The one I recall is $5 Stella Artois and some other Shot Du Jour.

For an opening night the turnout was fantastic, and I can say that the spot/vibe has potential to be the favored downtown Saturday weekly.

WORD.

[...] Circa 28 kicks off it’s new Friday night party tonight in the Wynwood Art District. Don’t miss out as you know from CNTRL’s post on Circa 28 this place knows how to throw down. There will be a live performance by Agape ft. Nadia Harris fresh back from Brasil upstairs while downstairs you will enjoy beats from Electric Porkchop, Bullfrog Beatz, Yudo (Colombia), Mike Sike (NYC) and Heather Holiday. And as always no cover at the door. Check out one of Miami’s quickest growing “alternate” spots. [...]
